yeah I'm pretty sure I'd take Protean Hydra pick 3 and end up in RG. Green was definitely open as well, probably moreso than blue.

They will usually play Assault first, so instant speed removal for Swans just makes them discard another land. There isn't really anything else you can maindeck besides the 4 Maelstrom Pulse. Though ...

you choose when you announce the spell, just like you declare the modes for a command spell and choose targets when you announce it. nice topic name too.
