Spike Jester ftw!

by GreenBear on 2013-05-22 18:27 CET

Bad mana on both the second and first place decks, 10 sources is not enough even more so when your aggro, so you need access to both colours early.

by Raybelfast on 2013-05-22 18:44 CET

Isn't the second place just Gruul Aggro? not sure lightning mauler is a midrange card.

by pg8 on 2013-05-22 18:44 CET

Both of the top 2 decks have the exact same manabase and both "splash white" for an extra offcolor mana source that also casts boros reckoner. I like that.

by Kabelis on 2013-05-22 20:15 CET

Names don't matter too much, but still, 2nd place deck is obv just Gruul aggro splashing 2 temple gardens for reckoner. 2 thundermaws and 2 domris don't make it midrange either.
And is it really that hard to add "aggro" at the end of "Jund" for the 4th place list? :P "Jund" is commonly associated with the midrange control deck, not one which runs BTEs or Boars.
I hear Aggro is threatening to sue for misrepresenting its place in the metagame.

by GreenBear on 2013-05-22 20:21 CET

The issue is with the 10 sources of the secondary colour, that is not enough, particularly with the 2nd place deck, burning tree emissary is a bit crap when cast on turn 4 when you finally drew a green source.

by GDP on 2013-05-22 20:52 CET

... You don't need green to cast BTE, GreenBear, she actually acts as pseudo green source herself.

The first place deck does need 2 more Godless Shrine for 2 mountains. No real reason not to.

by GreenBear on 2013-05-22 21:07 CET

Oh shit can tell how much I have played with that card! Still don't like 10 sources for a secondary colour.

by BusDriver on 2013-05-22 21:45 CET

Yes there is a reason not to go more non-red sources: it's absolutely essential to cast your ash zealot t2.
If you don't draw a black source in your opening hand and you only have 1 black card in your hand (only 7 md anyway that need casting before t4) you can still comfortably play.
I could support going 3 godless shrines given the sb but it starts getting clunky very quickly with the zealots. Not to mention drawing a second non-red source just makes for a dead card in this deck.
I don't consider adding guildgates an option.

by GreenBear on 2013-05-22 22:46 CET

You clearly can not play guildgates in that deck, guildgates and one drops are a bad idea. However 18 sources is more than reasonable for, an RR spell and reckoner is less of an issue thanks to godless shrine. You could always add an extra land and drop a red source. As on the play by turn 4 with 22 lands you average 3.6 something lands, whilst on the draw your fine with an average of 4.0 something lands. Adding a land would put you upto an average of 3.8 something on the play and 4.2 something on the draw.

12 is the magical number for 2 colour decks, go look at all the good old two colour aggro decks from times gone by madness would be my go example for this. You might get away with that mana in a 5 round tournament but not 16 rounds.

by xJudicatorx on 2013-05-23 03:55 CET

Good call on the 2nd place deck Raybelfast -- that was my bad. Saw Temple Garden and the white just wouldn't get out of my head I guess.

by Mpelos on 2013-05-23 10:25 CET

Aye, its an aggro deck the same one i played on my last trial.

by akill on 2013-05-25 18:10 CET
