Ban Thragtusk please.

by Wyr on 2012-10-07 06:05 CET

Thragtusk was made to deal with aggro-control/tempo decks like Delver, and in that it excels. It also slows down the format to a point where one can play control, midrange, reanimator, etc. Because the format is still new people auto-include it, but on the long run decks without Thragtusk will emerge. It is not on a ban level, like Jace, TMS or Stoneforge.

by DonDiggy on 2012-10-07 06:20 CET

Pfft. Would have crushed each and every of those decks with Zombies. However, Diablo3 was too much fun, missed 3rd rounds pairings :D

by Duodax on 2012-10-07 07:17 CET

good you played d3 instead of wasting time here losing to control with donkboys. once in a blue moon a right choice, dondiggy!

by Pokemaster on 2012-10-07 08:03 CET

C'mon, why don't you play more graveyard hate with reanimator dominating.

by struikje on 2012-10-07 09:54 CET

because they just beat you with hardcast angel/thragtusk and lingering souls when you play a rest in peace

by Strid3r on 2012-10-07 10:29 CET

appetite for brains is the good hate

by Pegachris on 2012-10-07 11:30 CET

Looks like my list continues to dominate, even in SCG Open lol. I was sadly not able to 3 peat as I stumbled against a RB aggro deck. I'm currently retooling the deck around to have a better matchup against zombies and RB aggro because it is impossible for the deck to lose to control and midrange is a good matchup.

by Pegachris on 2012-10-07 11:31 CET

And it kills me when I hear the SCG Open commentators say HE broke the format ...

by boeda on 2012-10-07 11:40 CET

Mwuhaha! So? You raised your first army? The stench of rotting flesh and the otherworldly grunts of your dispicable Zombies gave you enough confidence to challenge me, 'Boeda, lord of the undead'?
Show me your Rituals and I'll show you mine, I'll teach you how to reanimate any soul, not just the rotting lackeys you've filled your grave with..

Next time when you challenge me to a duel, DonDiggy, don't hide in Hell... I'll reanimate a Demon to feast on your role playing ass! Mwuhahaha!

by mtgsoldier on 2012-10-07 12:12 CET

I miss the old times, when october was RDW month. now it is reanimate?

by judas_bcn on 2012-10-07 14:00 CET

i lost against boeda, with grixis control. he can say, i had lots of answers to his threats, but then he had even more threats. this reanimator decks are not played in combo mode, they are played as midrange, with lingering souls to resist and finishing with thragtusk most of the times. a single activation of griselband refuels them enough to take you to the late game, where multiple thragtusk backed by rites when dead are unbeatable. he didn't manage to resolve angel of serenity, but i guess that's the cherry i the top of the cake. in one game i managed to kill 2 griselbands and 2 thragtusk, but then he finished me with another griselband and 2 more thragtusk. i couldn't resolve slaughter games, which wouldn't have stopped him at all, but at least would have given me time enough to try to do some better things.

by judas_bcn on 2012-10-07 14:03 CET

i can't edit. in the game i said, he won 20 from tusks, and ended at 19, so you can figure out how important it is for this deck.

by on 2012-10-07 15:52 CET

lol. boedas deck is better. 3 Griselbrand >>> 2 Griselbrand. demons demons demons... i love demons..

by StarWizard on 2012-10-07 16:35 CET

@Pegachris, you should be way more annoyed at Pikanso (Ryk here), who posted your exact list as a response to an article in a brazilian website and said "that's my list that I've been using on M-L".

by DSD-Steve on 2012-10-07 17:15 CET

I see it, i must come back and bashing all again :p

by hett on 2012-10-07 17:24 CET

I punted game 3 in semis.... :/

by SteveGoode on 2012-10-07 17:37 CET

uwr control deck was definitely the best deck at the starcity tournament seeing that it won and players had better finishes playing it. Oh and look at the fact that a deck like that is noticeably absent from the magic-league meta game.

by Mykrob56 on 2012-10-07 20:39 CET

Steve, 4 people played that list that Nelson made. Todd was the only one who topped. UWR most likely is the best deck, but I played Chris' list minus a few changes, and posted the same record as GerryT. I also was 2-0 against zombies, and 2-0 against UWR control. I lost 2 2 GW decks.Reanimator is good, and people like Duodax need to just realize it instead of looking like idiots everytime they say how bad it is and then are constantly proven wrong.

by SteveGoode on 2012-10-07 21:34 CET

its a matter of opinion ive been play a similar list of the uwr control deck and i havent lost to it. Its honestly in my opinion not very good. Going into the last round brad and todd were in contention to top 8 with obviously todd winning the whole thing. The reanimator deck will be decent until people in m-l actually start playing real decks. The deck my not be horrible but its certainly wont be that good in the long run

by Pegachris on 2012-10-07 22:40 CET

LOL @ Ryk. Please let me know what everyone else is saying.

That guy at Scg played well and was geared more against zombies but I think he made a few mis plays in the finals against Todd. Especially the blocking with only one soul token and going down to 1. That was probably the dumbest thing I ever seen especially seeing as how all his soul tokens were locked out by Jace. No reason to not block 1 or 2 more angels to buy you more time. Also he could've done better with his Angel targets in the finals.

The deck is not easy to play but is very powerful. I beat control decks all the time when they play rest in peace or other graveyard hate. After all my testing I found the only true way to consistently beat this deck is to apply pressure. Thats why Im updating the deck to be more streamlined against aggro game 1. The hard part is finding a balance so Im not cold to the control decks. When I get there you all will know.

by on 2012-10-08 00:09 CET

People have a misconception it is a reanimator deck. It is a mid-range deck with a reanimator finish for added consistency. The deck can easily win with Spirit Tokens and Thragtusks and hard casted Angels.
