its always easy to tell when someone who comments on these tournaments is a terrible deck builder and cant even comprehend a deck doing well that isnt a complete pt/gp winning net deck copied straight from a pro. they have no idea how to design a deck for an expected meta

Why do i have to face 3 of 6 Delver Decks with UW Miracles ?!?
The Universe is not fair to me :(

by el_focker on 2012-08-13 17:51 CET

Burton, unless you expect to smash every non-delver deck, going into the tournament with a deck that seems to lose to the most popular deck is a bad idea. At the very least, expecting to win the tournament is unrealistic. YOu shouldnt feel too bad, since you did t8 and then lost to a deck that you would expect to play in the t8.

Yesm, I play whatever gives me the best chance of winning the tournament. Not playing a netdeck in order to be original is just stupid and doesnt make you a "good deckbuilder". It just means that you didn't really value winning in the first place. I've had plenty of success designing decks, but will always tune (not simply copy) a known deck if that gives me a better chance to win.
If anything, RFT is my favorite format by a wide margin simply because it forces people to build relatively original decks. If netdecks werent a thing, I'm confident I would win significantly more.

by Burton911 on 2012-08-13 18:38 CET

I dont feel bad about it.
UW Control is the deck that beats the decks that beat delver in this meta, while the delver MU is still reasonable but definitly in their favour.

Also i dont consider this as my deck, UW Control is so old it could be used as a synonym to netdecking :)
The list pretty bad as well as i did not test or even play with that deck all that much. I am sure it shouldnt be that hard to improve the delver mu if you are willing to do the work.
Somebody suggested Blade Splicers yesterday to beat Geist of Saint Traft. This seems like a good idea, and i will definitly try, however i think Attended Knight is the better choice since it does almost the same while not losing to Vapor Snag.

It seems that all of the delver lists stopped playing Cavern of Souls which makes Mana Leak a reasonable sideboard option as well, altough it messes with the curve.

And i dont blame people for playing the dtb. It just sucks when you hit runner runner delver in a field like this.
It does not help that i drawed round two against a stalling delver opponent who got rewarded for it, but moscowdemon is grumpy about the issue so i dont elaborate on that

by judas_bcn on 2012-08-13 19:58 CET

on the last trial i played, i totally beated duodax's delver first round 2-0 with BW exalted humans and was merciless destroyed by mephisto nayapod 0-2 on round 2. must have been lucky on round one, no other way to explain it.

by DonDiggy on 2012-08-13 20:35 CET

@Burton: I don't know your Deck, but I'm playing Miracle Control myself over a couple of weeks now and I think UWR is the way to go. Bonfire, Whipflare, Pillar maindeck, Combust in Sideboard. Turns the unfavorable matchup into positive and gives you additional cq with Lighthouse. Okay, the mana is a lil more complicated, but it definately pays out.

by Duodax on 2012-08-13 21:48 CET

Just don't treat this results as gold! I lucked Gut Shot after Ponder shuffle to stay alive vs WR Steel and he was 1 mana Short to cast Steel and activate Nexus in same turn. G3 Finals only a topdecked Snappy took it home only because opp drew a cipt land instead of a normal one...

by Yavimaya73 on 2012-08-14 02:35 CET

snore...I love playing rogue decks just for the sole purpose of NOT playing cookie cutter decks. I did played with a "netdeck" once to prove a point and won a tournemnt with the top tier one deck back in Mirrodin's hayday. I have always said and will always say that it does not take a great deal of skill to win with these types of decks. Especially in today's magic world. I just am not impressed and no amount of your flaming this post will change my mind..nuff said...show me something different for once.

U Mad?

by Shagrath on 2012-08-15 07:37 CET

lol @ idiots that talk about netdecks.

by el_focker on 2012-08-15 23:43 CET

Yav, you won a tournament with a netdeck? Clearly, that is proof that guys like GerryT have no skill for winning with netdecks like delver ;)

I actually think this philosophy of handicapping yourself to be original should apply to other sports. That Usain Bolt guy doesn't impress me..anyone can run. If he really wants to be a legend, he needs to win a gold medal with a potato sack around his legs.
