Essence harvest for real?

by GunsAndDope on 2012-07-24 23:34 CET

Why the hell not run 4x Murder instead of the Go For The Throat/Doom Blade

by SheerMadness on 2012-07-24 23:40 CET

Because I need to kill delver quicker than turn 3 sometimes.

The key to mono black has always been reach outside of attacking. Black has too many permanent types it simply can't deal with once they hit the table. You have to have ways to win outside of attacking.

Harvest, Sign in Blood (at them, wins me a lot of games), and Messenger life loss give me that reach.

Harvest is obviously insane with Lashwrithe. Very good with Obliterator. Hell it's essentially 8 points of damage with a single Messenger.

Once in a blue moon it'll be a dead draw late game when you have no threats out and need an answer. But that's almost never and it's worth it for all the games it wins me.

Glad to see MBC rocking...although it is not the form that most have been experimenting with (pristine/karn etc...)

by ody on 2012-07-25 09:07 CET

Deck seems a bit situational to be honest... can not see how it can win vs anything other than red/green variants.

MTG = Matchups: the gathering

by GreenBear on 2012-07-25 15:22 CET

Deck needs liliana its the best card in MBC better than even messenger, good vs aggro and control, not that much control exists atm.

by SheerMadness on 2012-07-25 15:30 CET

The metagame right now is delver and 10 aggro decks. Liliana is usually a one hit diabolic edict vs all those aggro decks. Not good. If the metagame changes Liliana will be good but not right now.

by GreenBear on 2012-07-25 16:31 CET

You need liliana vs delver UW version (still best version) or else you lose to geist of st taraft if they are on the play. Plus if forces people to over extended into mutilate.

by SheerMadness on 2012-07-25 17:00 CET

The targeted discard I play is way better vs delver than Liliana. Both hit counters and vapor snag, plus distress hits geist or any other creatures if need be.

Clearing a path for Nighthawk, Mutilate, or Obliterator is a much better plan than running a Liliana into a Leak turn 3. I have a pretty solid match up vs delver thus far.

by bambamdoo on 2012-07-25 17:12 CET

liliana was voted by team CFB the worst planeswalker of all time.... yes worse then chandra's and all the bad sorin's...

by Shagrath on 2012-07-25 17:19 CET

I fail to see how can Liliana be worse than Tibalt.

by mtgsoldier on 2012-07-25 18:00 CET

He was probabily talking about the new M13 liliana. americans, what else. obviously liliana of teh veil is a very good planeswalker

by Ameni on 2012-07-25 18:01 CET

Unfortunely i had to drop at 4-0 ,not saying that i would win the trial but was a strong possibility.

by GunsAndDope on 2012-07-25 19:34 CET

I still fail to see how any planeswalker can be worse than tibalt.

by GreenBear on 2012-07-25 20:27 CET

Yeah CFB were talking about the new liliana, liliana of the veil has 3 powerful abilities and cost 3 and is powerful enough to see play in modern. Its one of the best planeswalkers going but needs a bit of tailoring your deck to it. And the first place deck is perfect for liliana.

And yes tibalt is pretty damn terrible.

Dude, good job. This deck is 100lbs of awesome in a 10lb sack. Good enough for me to start wanting to run it. Don't let these haters get you down on something that's good. I built mine today and smoked Wolf Run and RW Humans with ease. Its a good deck. Period.

I've been running this deck (Mono Black) with 2 Liliana of the Veil's instead of Essence Harvest since M13 went on MTGO... runs beautifully. I haven't lost yet. I did play with Essence Harvest for a bit, and it did win me a couple of games. Nice to see Mono Black return with a vengeance!

by SheerMadness on 2012-07-31 21:00 CET

Well Essence Harvest provides some pretty awesome reach, something mono black really needs.

But I'm glad you guys like it.
