No control decks :/

by DARKING on 2011-08-13 01:47 CET

I wish they did not banned Mental Misstep. It is very hard as a blue player to battle this quality of aggro decks.

by archmage521 on 2011-08-13 01:51 CET

go flyingfreak!

by pg8 on 2011-08-13 01:58 CET

7 counterspells in the top 3.... this is not good.

by tchiseen on 2011-08-13 02:05 CET

Misstep is obviously too strong in all the formats it's legal in if this is what it looks like when it's banned...

So, keeping notes on the trial:

* Surprised to see so few decks out of the field I had: 12post, Zoo and Merfolk were there, but there was little to no Faeries (which was monoblue in extended once upon a time), Bant, Tron, UX(x) control or land denial variants.

* Control being almost nonexistent is disappointing. All the tools were there, and even the aggro-control variants (Merfolk and Faeries) had a chance against Zoo with some tweaking. Then again, losing Jitte might have been the swan song for those two.

* Contrary to popular belief, there are still combo decks that are viable, such as Living End

* Control decks should be enjoying great Zoo matchups, especially with the format this open.

It'll be interesting to see how the format evolves over the next few weeks, that's for certain.

go flyingfreak!

i love the interaction between lands in crappeur's boros :)

by xJudicatorx on 2011-08-13 03:23 CET

That's not Zoo.......

by chopsaw on 2011-08-13 03:33 CET

^fuck you

by P_P4E on 2011-08-13 04:06 CET

...Rift bolt?

by xJudicatorx on 2011-08-13 04:32 CET

@Chopsaw: Not unless you buy me dinner first.

by on 2011-08-13 08:31 CET

random decks...
no controls, no posts, no affinity

by MotC on 2011-08-13 08:47 CET

Only one Jund player? Very few 12post playesrs? Confused much?

by numotflame96 on 2011-08-13 13:27 CET

actualy percentage wise there were a decent number of 12 post players.the only deck that beat 12post was zoo(10 decks while post had 7) followed by merfolk and hive mind at 4. and there were 2 jund decks. and 1 affinity... you guys might want to take a look at the decks before making assumtions...

by FlyingFreak on 2011-08-13 14:01 CET

I also won against 12 post :p Hopefully Zoo won't become the best deck in this format :-/

by Halldir on 2011-08-13 18:49 CET

zoo is great matchup for my demigod stompy:) but hive mind post is a problematic one

by Shagrath on 2011-08-13 22:14 CET

hooray for brainless decks... new bannings leaves little timmy with a smile in his face.

by blundercrush on 2011-08-14 04:24 CET

control needs to know what cards it needs to react to...aggro/combo usually better in unknown format.

by Egren on 2011-08-14 12:16 CET

WOW. Sweeet fucking jeebus, FlyingFreak! I just literally jumped in my chair when i saw "Ad Nauseam Conflagrate" in 2nd place.

This just makes me so happy.

As for card choices, Patrician's Scorn is still hot dripping tech for sb (though i missed that card pre-Amsterdam), also, Consume the Meek completely pwns Treehouse and ofc other creature decks and can be searched for with teachhings.

I'm happy to see people still throwing Conflagrates at people ^^

by DenisSinner on 2011-08-16 13:25 CET

Modern is like the old extended. What is so confusing about Jund not beeing viable, when it wasn't a deck in the old extended? It wasn't even a Tier1 Deck in the new Extended (which was smaller & on lower power level)

by derflippi on 2011-08-16 18:50 CET
