yeah, I agree

by proxie404 on 2010-01-14 00:49 CET

i agree 3 lol WTF

by ryuzaki on 2010-01-14 00:54 CET

i think affinity its a good call on actual meta

i have never be a fan of LD, but first deck is very interesting too

by Desensitizer on 2010-01-14 00:55 CET

No Living End, Learning Disability in 3rd, etc. JOKE

by Lynolf on 2010-01-14 01:10 CET

Funniest... top4... ever.

by Gerr on 2010-01-14 01:22 CET

I admit I've always been a big fan of LD and I'm glad it seems a valid deck. I know people usually hate losing to it, but come on, it's only a game.
Don't be like that guy (quote from one of my opponents):
"What a fucking joke", "what a stupid fucking deck".

by Ryk on 2010-01-14 01:36 CET

Thirst for Knowledge in Affinity ... ???

by JacobMatthew on 2010-01-14 02:06 CET

LD seems viable with ~10 scapeshift decks per trial

living end is str8 garb imo, SO janky, and gets wrecked post SB by oppos that expect a real deck like dredge

needs moar burn.

by P_P4E on 2010-01-14 03:09 CET

living end is bad. Anyone who says otherwise has never played against it. Maybe if someone learns how to actually play it well then it could turn out to be fine, but as is, for a normal player, its completely bad.

My deck, again, thrown together in 5 minutes before the trial. I again got lucky throughout (although less this time) and again lost to jank affinity in the semis.

Game 3 I had him with no cards in hand and no creatures on the board and I lost to a master of etherium and rite of consumption draw. Affinity scoops to burnwillow and punishing minus that rite of consumption card that I didn't even know existed in magic.

Also, my deck is really good. Don't change anything if you rip it beyond maybe the sideboard. I did a pretty sweet job on that pile.

by dAEdaL on 2010-01-14 04:28 CET

Weird. I expected 5+ straight copies of Living End going 0-1.

by Djinn on 2010-01-14 04:49 CET

Hurkyl's recall is good in aff's sb

by gypsy on 2010-01-14 06:36 CET

by Djinn on 2010-01-13 23:49 EST

Hurkyl's recall is good in aff's sb

its good in mirror and vs thopter

by Eldariel on 2010-01-14 07:59 CET about people not knowing what to play. It seems everyone is pretty stymied by this Xt format.

by LilDan on 2010-01-14 10:06 CET

gj Gerr, I'll be sure to test your build

by dv8r on 2010-01-14 13:28 CET

@gerr: I don't understand plated geopede in your build at all, it seems really really suboptimal compared to other cards you could be playing instead, such as tarmogoyf, any particular reason you chose it? (don't say "because it swings for 5 on turn 3, derf. derf." as I can see that already)

I don't see the problem with the affinity build in first place. You typically want soul's fire or fatal frenzy in affinity as they let you win out of nowhere. Rite of consumption is better vs zoo (lets you gain a lot of life off an ornithopter with plating or something without) needing to target a guy that they can remove in response. Also, by not playing red cards, he can run ancient den over great furnace whilst still keeping his darksteel citadels.

As for the first place list, well, I would always try to run geopede in that sort of a deck, but there's nothing ostensibly WRONG with it.

by mrwegle on 2010-01-14 13:46 CET

What the point to play red instead blue?what matches are batter?

by P_P4E on 2010-01-14 14:08 CET

probably all the matchups where they can stop a combo. It's an aggro deck with scapeshift, which I think is better.

by OldBear on 2010-01-14 15:13 CET

I actually like that affinity list a lot, the more I study it the more impresive I find it.

by FlyingFreak on 2010-01-14 17:46 CET

Nice top 2 decks

by geestyler on 2010-01-14 18:21 CET

Thirst for Knowledge is actually good in Affinity.

by Gerr on 2010-01-14 19:59 CET

dv8r: Yes, you're right. I didn't search for possibilities very much and wanted to make the G splash as little as possible, so the Tarmogoyfs didn't occur to me. I'd include them now, maybe even with the Punishing Fire/Burnwillows engine instead of some burn. There's definitely room for improvement.
I'd like to play the deck in some ptq soon though and that will be quite a different story - they are still so damn expensive...
LilDan: thanks, I'dd suggest either what was written above or to switch Javelins, Deuses and 2 Incinerates for 4 figures and two Stone Rains.

by Shooter on 2010-01-14 20:04 CET

grove w/o knight, lynx and only 8 fetches. Pretty much everything is wrong in that zoo list.

I'd like to know in which matches is rite better than foundry too.

RG scapeshift is better vs faeries, air, burn, zoo. But MUCH worse vs tezz/pseudo mirror. Which scapeshift to play is a meta call. According to the top4 that choice was right :D

RG LD... I won't talk about it :(

by P_P4E on 2010-01-14 22:52 CET

shooter, you're wrong.

That list is air tight.

by Shagrath on 2010-01-15 00:09 CET

by Gerr on 2010-01-14 01:22 GMT

I admit I've always been a big fan of LD and I'm glad it seems a valid deck. I know people usually hate losing to it, but come on, it's only a game.
Don't be like that guy (quote from one of my opponents):
"What a fucking joke", "what a stupid fucking deck".

I would quote him as well.

Why viridian zealot instead of ancient grudge?
