lol, a PTQ Report (Iselin, NJ)
Written by brimstone on March 07, 2010
After having quite a bit of success two weeks ago (5-2 losing for T8) and a fair bit on magic-league, I decided to play dredge again for the PTQ.
Which is just Cedric's list from the GP with -1 Tarn, +1 Dryad Arbor which is just an overall great card to have imo.
So, I end up not having a ride to the event which means I have to take two trains followed by a 20 minute walk to the site (100 minutes each way) and get there at around 9:30. Upon reaching the site I discover I'm 3 Verdant Catacombs short and scramble to get them and am luckily able to borrow them from some friends.
Round 1: Calosso with Thepths Playing people you know round 1 of a PTQ kind of sucks.
Game 1 I mull to the sickest 4 card hand ever: 2 lands, ideas unbound, glimpse. I get seized for my glimpse, but my ideas hits a dredger so I'm still in it. Four draw steps go by where I need to hit a moeba off a dredge, but fail to do and I succumb to a 20/20.
SBing: -1 Sphinx of Lost Truths, -3 Dread Return, -2 Iona, Shield of Emeria, - 4 Glimpse the Unthinkable
+3 Echoing Truth, +3 Ancient Grudge, +3 Darkblast, +1 Life from the Loam
Game 2 I keep my seven (3 land, Rusalka, truth, imp, troll) and my opponent turn 0 Leylines. I lead with a Rusalka and decide I want to save my echoing truth for a turn where I can get in multiple Rusalka triggers. Unfortunately for me I also decide I want to lose the game as I play a tapped dual as my second land and get my truth seized. The game ends pretty quickly from here.
Round 2: Random with Zoo lol, zoo 1-1, 2-2
Round 3: Random with Zoo
In game 3 my opponent plays a turn 2 blood moon when I have 2 crabs, a Bloodghast, and 2 watery graves out (with bridge in the yard). On my turn when presented with the choice of returning an Ancestors Chosen or Rusalka, I choose Rusalka. Yeah, mastery.
To add to my great day, my friend (who I haven't seen in a good 2-3 months) has me call his girlfriend for some reason unbeknownst to me and we have a lovely chat about my winter break, :(. On the bright side, i did get to meet two other m-lers (moscowdemon and someone else), so not a total loss of a day. :P

I have a feeling people missed the sarcasm of this report and took it seriously. :(
by cmc on 2010-03-08 23:29 CET
why go to the trouble of fixing the leyline sentence if it was sarcasm. :(

by dv8r on 2010-03-09 13:56 CET
