Online Magic: the Gathering Player Profile of: Lydonius

1. Please introduce yourself
<Lydonius> I apologize for any incorrect use of english language because I'm Italian, age 47, and I started playing Magic back in late '94 when 'The Dark' was released. I was introduced to the game by friends with whom I used to play D&D and other Board Games such as Risk and Axis&Allies etc. I've always been an unusual 'gamer' because I love playing a game more than I like winning.

2. When did you start playing in the league?
<Lydonius> I joined Magic-League in late 2002, when it was still a small one with like 35-40 people (a peak of users). I brought with me most of my online friends that yet played online magic, and I was charged by Koen to be a "trait d'union" between Italian players and the rest of the league due to the fact that not many of them were good at speaking English, so I could help to solve problems.

3. What do you like about magic?
<Lydonius> The fabulous world that lies in those small card pieces; I fell in love with the art of some old card like Timetwister or Demonic Tutor, and the mechanics of the game (completely free on deckbuilding at the time) was one of best parts.

4. What do you do on the site?
<Lydonius> Actually, I'm one of higher level judge online, and I help to keep it smooth and comfortable for all of the users. I solve disputes amongst players and help newbies play online.

5. What do you like the most about the league?
<Lydonius> I like this League because it's a good place to be in, and I think that the judges are accurate and we host lots of tourneys so people can have fun and improve their play skill. Don't forget that the previous world champ came from our league (hi JulienN) ;) .

6. If you could do one thing to change the league, what would it be?
<Lydonius> Well, I would appreciate the chance to run swiss-style minis.

7. Are there any league players you consider tough opponents?
<Lydonius> <any of them; I think I've played probably all of the good players and I will surely do something bad mentioning only some (I'm a bit old, you know, and my memory fails a bit). MW|Core is surely the one that comes in mind; I think I'll never beat him if we play a lot. And, he's a really nice opponent and a friend. Then comes the people on the WTF Team: Kaesh, Sabbath, and Koen too (I've played him in several t1 trials). As I said before, I apologize for the ones I did not mention, but you all are in my heart if you were good and sportsmanlike :)

8. What is currently your favorite format?
<Lydonius> Type 1 (Eternal). I love the pure 'magic' that the powerful old cards transmit to you while you play a T1 match, and I love the old layout too.

9. Which league player would you like to meet in real life?
<Lydonius> I wish I could meet all the friends that live on the other side of the ocean.

10. Do you have anything else to add?
<Lydonius> Remember this: when at last you will face the Great Gamekeeper, he won't care if you lost or won, but HOW you played the game.
