note, however, that auriok replica CAN prevent noncombat damage to a planeswalker. non-combat damage has to be routed through the player, so damage prevention to player works.

weedmonkey is entirely correct, but I think he misread Trinquin's intent; he meant that you won't have to sacrifice the equipment because, as an equipment, it remains behind.
