|
|
HI i'm kinda new to magic tournaments and i'd like to know how can i make a good deck within the agro-control format.
i've seen a lot of decks where i play FNM but i just cant get an idea of what to play; i've seen doran rock, reivellark combo, lots of faeries, skred red, a g/r manaramp and a deck of kithkins and a red beats.
With this enviroment.
I've been thinking about a green/black control but i cant afford the thoughtseize and the garruks (never mind the tarmogayfs and the colossus), i know those are good, good cards but i'd like to keep with the treefolks idea.
Can you help me with this deck?
any suggestions, sarcasms, insults and what ever you say is welcomed. (by the way, does that word exist? ¿welcomed? any way...)
Thanks for reading |

| welcomed is a word. If your just starting out playing and want an easy deck RDW red deck wins, in cheap and does pretty much the same thing every game burn your opponent to the face so its really easy to play. For a list check out the t2 deck section Kaesh won a trial with it if I am not mistaken. Maybe its not your cup of tea its certainly not mine, but it has good matchups is cheap to build. |

Well, I'd take out 2 dryads for 2 leaf crowned elders, since they are actually dynamite in the deck.
Also, since you seem to have great 4 drops, cards like fertile ground and into the north spring to mind to get them down on turn 3 consistently.
The thing is, this then often leads to me putting garruk in the deck, since it's so good with fertile ground. However, you can go more the snowy route, with 1 mouth of ronom and 4 artic flats to sort out mana.
I'm assuming you can't get hold of 4 murmuring bosk, which is fine, but if you can't fetch one with yavimaya dryad, I'd replace the dryad with into the north and leaf crowned elder, work in more 2 mana accel and put in any number of arctic flats, and 1 mouth of ronom myself.
EDIT: I'd change the deck as follows:
-4 search for tomorrow
-2 yavimaya dryad
+4 into the north
+2 Leaf crowned elder
-3 forest
+2 artic flats
+1 mouth of ronom |

20 land is not enough. 23 is minimum when you play so many high-cost spells. Even though you run Search for Tomorrow and Yavimaya Dryad.
I don't think Kinship is a constructed-worthy ability. You have 23 Treefolk spells. Let us say that by turn 3 you have 20 of them left in a 50 card library. That is a 40% chance of hitting a Treefolk. Unless you hit one the first upkeep, it takes at least 3 turns before you get to attack with the creature you kinshiped.
In your deck, the only cards I would be exited about seeing is Timber Protector and Dauntless Dourbark. The other ones aren't very impressive Elder targets. |

I first post the updated decklist and then talk about some cards i added/removed.
Creatures
4 Treefolk Harbinger
2 Wall of Roots
3 Liliana Vess
4 Leaf-Crowned Elder
3 Shriekmaw
2 Timber Protector
4 Dauntless Dourbark
4 Bosk Banneret
Spells
1 Profane Command
2 Primal Command
1 Mind Shatter
2 Nameless Inversion
1 Reach of Branches
1 Lignify
4 Search for Tomorrow
Lands
12 Forest
2 Treetop Village
3 Swamp
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
4 Llanowar Wastes
First of all i agreed with the things that firbolt sayed and that you play to less lands.
What i basicly did was going deeper into the toolbox idea. Therefore i added 3xLiliana Vess, which is also great with Leaf Crown Elder(which i also upped to 4, not only because of liliana Vess, i kicked 3 Harmonize for them because i felt after having so mutch card quality and also cad advantage(leaf crown elder, reach the branches) i dont realy need more carddraw. I Removed some nameless inversion and added 3 Shriekmaws(searchable with primal Command) and 1 Lignify to have a way to search a hard "creature removal" for treefolk harbringer. After all those toolboxing i wanted to add 1 mindshatter and didnt realy found the space for it so i kicked 1 Profane Command. I also removed 1 timber protector, i know its a great card to save your big guys, but you dont realy want multiples(although its funny to have 2 in play), but its just to expensive for that. I also kicked Loxodon Warhammers, i initially had 3 Primmal Commands as a kind of replacment, but i didnt had enough space for 3 Liliana and 3 Primmal Commands, and i decided that liliana will be better(although if it turns out you have lots of problems against aggro you can still switch that). In terms of more toolboxing i also added 1 Reach of Branches which is a great card. I would suggest, testing a bit online and play around with the lists you get here and then you will find out what you like most. |

whats the point of having four Into the Norths if you only have 3 snow lands. Search for tommorrow is fine or even rampant growth. |

thank for the posts!!!
ok, as you can see the english isn't my main language so thanks for the correction.
And thanks for suggesting the Red beats deck, trotsky1.
What i wanted to do was a treefolk deck with out doran because i dont like the creature that much to pay a lot off money to make a deck around it, so mainly the deck is focused in the dauntless and its interaction with the other trees. But i can allways make the RDB deck if i can, so the guys at my FMN spot don't know which deck i'll be playing.
firebolt, thanks for the tip of the snow lands and of fertile ground/garruk, maybe i could get 3 borrowed but meanwhile let's make it with out them (the small combo of garruk, i mean. i really like the snow idea)
And answering to only-3, the basic lands in the deck would be snow theme so the idea is get a lot of lands quickly.
Vedrfolner, thanks for your comment and yes, it was my mistake with the lands, the deck has been obviously slow because of that but i get at least 3 folks in my opening hand and a 4 one in my 1st draw (don't ask me why, i don't know, hehehe) so i get a lot of folks usually, and the big ones just when i need them (they love me, hehehehe).
KeySam, thanks for taking the trouble of updating the deck, i really like it. maybe i will make it that way but with 2 profane and put the mind shatter (2 of them)in the side with the 3rd primal, the format is getting aggro for what i've read so it's just for caution.
The reach and the lignify would help me but one cost 5 and the other leaves a critter in play, things that i don't like but the reach makes me think...
maybe i'll put it in the side.
so now i will do the deck with your guidelines and i will tell you how it works playing it by the road.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!! |

After checking the RDW list that won the trial i just thought one phrase: My heart!!!
hehehhe
First i saw the mutavaults and i said i would change them, but later i saw the giant and i guess maybe i won't do it that way, maybe a R goblin/gargadon deck would be cool but time will tell.
For now the list of the 'folks deck that i told you (yes is too fast but im anxious to play it tomorrow)
Lands 22
12 snow forest
3 snow swamp
4 llanowar wastes
1 urborg, Tomb of meh
2 scrying sheets
Critties 23
4 Treefolk Harbinger
4 Bosk banneret
2 Wall of roots
4 Leaf-Crowned elder
4 Dauntless dourbark
2 Timber protector
3 Shriekmaw
other spells 15
3 Liliana Vess
2 Profane command
2 Primal command
4 Nameless inversion
4 Into the north
Sideboard
1 Primal command
2 Mind shatter
1 Reach of branches
3 Cloudtresher
3 Krosan grip
2 Loxodon warhammer
3 Withered wretch
I guess its a good one.
The cloudtreshers for the faeries and the abuse of the bitter enchantment (but im thinking about putting a squall line/hurricane in this slot)
I put the Krosan because of the bitterblossom (they play them a lot where i go to FMN) and for the warhammers that they use wiht the trool ascetic.
The Withered because of the reanimates, tarmogayf and the reivellark combo.
And the loxodon because i love it (and more hate for the RDB and a black/red goblins, i hate red!! but only when i don't play it, hehehe)
Any suggestions will be prosecuted. |
