|

Can someone explain to me how abreviations for sets are "made" for mws..
I mean, some logic would be nice so we (the P-GO developers)can make us of this, to keep card-picture-folder-compatibility.
Time Spiral becomes TSP, first letter of first word, first 2 letters of second...
Planar Chaos however is PLC, first 2 of first word + first of second...
One would figure
TI S & PL C
or
T SP & P CH
Thoughts? |

All abbrevations aren't mws based.
They are dci based.
PLC and TSP are the official abbreviatons for the sets.
(CHK, BOK, SOK, etc the same)
->
when manually entering new sets with a text spoiler, you can set your abbreviation as you like |

If you look at it as "the first pronounced consonant sound" it comes out correctly.
Time = "T"
Spiral = "SP"
Planar = "PL"
Chaos = a hard c (or "k") sound = "C"
This also explains why Champions of Kamigawa was "CHK" instead of "CoK" (which obviusly is somewhat sexual as well) and the other two, Betrayers and Saviors, were BoK and SoK, respectively.
On the dirty word note, Prophecy is PY probably because "PP" seemed inappropriate and there were few other ways of getting the word "Prophecy" across in an abbreviation.
WL for Weatherlight, LG for Legends, and PT for Portal are one word names, and so they used the first consonant sound for each syllable.
Legions is LE because LG was taken by Legends.
Last but not least, The Dark is DK, probably because "the" is fairly irrelevant.
Otherwise, I'm pretty sure every name follows the aforementioned rules, except obviously editions are just 5E, 6E, etc and Alpha/Beta/Unlimited are just A, B, and U, respectively. |

That is because coldsnap is supposed to be a retro block. old sets used to be abbreviated with 2 letters, and since coldsnap is part of ice age block, they used an abbreviation of 2 letters.
