MTG The Movie!

So, I've been thinking about a mtg movie for years now. If it does happen someday, let us all pray that it won't have a wayans brother in it, like the D&D movie.... gosh... I haven't come up with many "who would be who" other than jokes like steve buscemi as a 'tog. I do think Mel Gibson would make a good Balduvian Horde, and Cathy Bates as Autumn Willow. Maybe Scarlet Johansen as one of the many angels.. Also, which set(s) do you think it should be based on. I'm a big fan of the Ravnica story.. What do YOU think?

the way ravnica was written i would say no, while it was a good storyline it would just make a movie either too long, or leave it with a lot of plot holes. Rath and Storm or the gathering dark wouldnt be bad ones.

The Weatherlight Saga would be awsome for a movie. Of course some parts would have to be excluded, unless it is made into a movie saga, one movie for each block involved perhaps?

I've thought about this alot, pretty much as I'm reading any particular Magic book.

I think Ravnica wouldn't be that great, its too intricate (sp?) and since each book is in a slightly different viewpoint (Selesnya through Boros, then Orzhov through Boros...havn't read the third yet, but I'd assume Azorious through Boros)

Kamigawa block would be a better movie series than ravnica, Toshi is a far more likable character, with plenty of drama and comic relief. And its already pretty much established that people like ninjas.

Invasion block would be an epic...if they made this one it would be by far the best 3 movies EVER made. Hands Down. Gerrard is the most important character in Magic history (arguably against Yawgmoth...buy hey, he's in here too). With the Weatherlight crew, epic battles, plane jumping, dragons, baddies...This would be my pick for the movie slot. Its also a tragedy, the best-selling type of literature ever.

ya know Fox said this same thing about Harry Potter.
And WB said it about Pokemon

ladies and gentlmen: A movie would kill magic. 3 reasons:

1. The actors would suck, cause obv no popular actor will ever play in an mtg movie

2. The story would suck, cause similar to the FF movie, they'd try making a totally new story and being a movie it would suck.

3. It would give magic bad publicity. Anyone who didn't like it would assume the game sucked too.

i agree with craze with reasons why it shouldnt be made

BUT

Harry Potter is totally different then Magic. Harry Potter is a book, Magic is a card game.(unless ur talking about the magic books. In which case: who cares, i dont know anyone who plays magic for the story)

Pokemon is for kids, kids are stupid and will buy(parents buy) ANYTHING.

The guilds theme could be a good storyline for a possible movie. I think that ravnica storyline is excelent and can be easily turned into a good movie

if they were to create a movie based on magic, it wouldnt have anything to do with the storylines, it would be a documentry covering ptqs and such, or some other variation on a story... This wouldnt be a major motion picture (OBV) but it would be pretty cool for us players to see. It would capture suspense going through rounds and the top8 or w/e, and it could be humourous, (the mtg community is one of the most outwardly funny in all geek-dom) and most of all it would probably be terrible. noone wants to see fat kids walk around and play cards (not including poker) and this would just be rediculous ( but i would see it ).
