|
|
| I've been using appr for several years. Tonight I downloaded it on a PC w/ AOL. Promply after installing it I got a warning from the AOL anti-virus saying it had blocked a trojan. Is this a coincidence? Has anyone else experienced this? |

Its possible. Its also possible that AOL's "trojan" reader is bad. I think that apprentice is programmed very poorly, hence why it can't get through firewalls and routers and the like. Most likely it is cludgy and it is because of this cludge that it is seen as a trojan.
Or it could be.
EDIT: It is also possible that by opening port 4747 you allowed malicious attackers into your system, and thus got the trojan because of an outside attack due to opening the port rather than due to apprentice itself. |

| Nothing you could do to your computer could be worse then installing AOL. |

Actually, the poor code (wich i still have on my hard drive) has nothing to do with the firewall/router issues, that is all the TCP protocol('s "fault")

Very possible, though i know very little about hacking, I do know apprentice uses a very old (buggy?) version of Project Indy's TCPServer to accept incoming connections. In fact, it's insanely easy to write a TCP client that just logs onto a "hosting" apprentice (ip from irc or whatnot) and just spams a ****load of data to the server to crash the hosting players apprentice or maybe even computer.
But I wouldn't worry about that too much |

| apprentice is infact a trojan since it is made to accese annother computer from a remote location using an open port ... which is exactly wat a trojan does |

heh...
Well if thats what apprentice is supposed to do then i say let it do it. There are prolly other programs like apprentice that do the same thing.
A Baby is a parasite... (however you spell it.) so we are all started off as.. n/m im keeping apprentice nothing is wrong with it. |
