damage rules question

so say i have the red rusalka in play and i sack it to dea damage to my opponent would he still deal the damage. i know it used to rule that it wouldn't because his ability refers to itself and creater hellion wouldn't deal the damage. please let me know and give documentation.

Scorched Rusalka is in play.

You tap a mountain.

You sacrifice Rusalka to itself.

Your opponent is dealt one damage.

if this is what your mean "you have the scoarched out you attack and he blocks with a llanowar elf, damage on the stack you sac to do one damage to the other player, does the elf still dies." yes it does.

Scorched Rusalka is the source of the damage when you use its ability, even if you sacrifice Rusalka to pay the cost. If you used COP: Red to prevent it, you'd choose "that Scorched Rusalka that just died" as the source of the damage to prevent.

That's pretty much because it says "Scorched Rusalka deals 1 point of damage to target player" on the card. Crater Hellion dealt that damage as well, as it was named as the source of the damage when it comes into play.
