Hey guys, I was just wondering what the deal was with elf decks that sideboard bitterblossom. I really don't see why it isn't in the main deck. Are there certain decks that bb is weak against? And against What decks does it usually bring in bb anyways?

Elves are fast but Bitterblossom slow, so they want their deck to have faster 2cc drops than Bitterblossom.
They side it in against decks that will manage to stop their elven onslaught. Against control. Bitterblossom is a house against control - especially against Bitterblossom. |

Thanks for the quick reply.
I agree that it is relatively slow, but I would argue that Garruk is as well, yet most versions run that card.
Also, I noticed that you mentioned bitterblossom is brought in against control. Which makes me wonder; against what types of decks is speed more important than the power of bitterblossom?
Edit: I would assume combo, but is that all? |

| Against other aggro decks (ex. RDW), the life loss isn't worth the 1/1 faeries. Plus, bb doesn't really have synergy with other cards the deck runs. Garruk is a fast card - he costs effectively two mana, and they are dead on the next turn if they don't deal. |

| Bitterblossom is good vs control because if they wrath the board and then counter your creature spells, you are still making uncounterable creatures every turn. |

Exactly. If you can resolve a Bitterblossom vs control, you don't actually need anything else. You don't have to waste cards because he needs to do something, not you. When he do, which will often cause him to tap out or otherwise become vulnerable, you sneak in some more threats. Often, he will waste valuable sweepers in order to stay afloat, making Chameleon Colossus and friends hurt even more afterwards. |
