IF you're a gamer (which I'm guessing some of you are), then you are probably aware that games teach us lessons that we could probably apply to our lives. I made this thread so we could post lessons that we've learned from playing countless amounts of games.

For me, I have 3 lessons,

1. Keep your eye on the ball
2. Always Shock the turn 1 Birds
3. Never trump your partner's Ace

San Francisco Giant's commercials taught me about being a gamer.

1. If you're a short old asian guy working as a supermarket cashier, all the other workers will attack any biker who tries to put 16 items in the 15 item isle.

2. If you go to get a girl a drink refill and some guy sits on the bench next to her, throw a baseball at him.

3. The Giants suck.

QFT.

1. The cards hate you. When in doubt, mulligan. No, that 1 land you need to turn the useless hand into a god-hand is nowhere near the top of your library.
2. However, when facing lethal damage and you have at least 1 Mountain in play, you WILL topdeck the exact burn spell you need.
3. Never EVER break mez...

Be prepared for people to attempt to cheat and decieve you, even more so if that person has a position of authority.

Never do something simply because someone tell's you too, think through why this person is making such a suggestion and then come to your own conclusion on if you should do it or not.

Following on only thoose weak in character fall victim to peer pressure.

People do not listen to people they don't like, so if you want someone to listen to you insulting them is not the way to go about it.

Playing games like Magic has greatly increased my vocabulary, there were a few times in high school where I would hear a word I didn't know the meaning to - Zealot, as an example - then would think of the title of a Magic card it appeared in (Viridian ZealotA), and then, knowing the flavor of the card, would figure out the meaning of the word.

This has happened to me a bunch of times, and I'm sure there were many more where I didn't realize I only knew word X from a card.

Also, when you are doing something, always do it with someone better than you. I played causal for a few years with friends and my cousin, and thought I was absolutely amazing. Played in a few FNM, and realized I was terrible. I played more and more, and eventually learned from all the mistakes I was making, and now consider myself to be pretty good again.

If you only do things with people who are worse than you, you never improve.
