I changed the red version now a lot, to be able to beat faeries. Its more aggresive then the old version. Anyway back on topic, if you play black i would play Doran and bitterlossom. And maybe a redundant sacrifice outlet in mirror entity or Marsh flitter(both more situantional). Anyway gl with your build.
edit: I wouldnt say the mana base is a lot more consistent with gwb then gbr, because gbr gets more duals(although bosk is good no question).

And what makes this even look close to a sub-optimal doran deck? the colors? gg gypsy, gg.
ANYWAY, I have been tinkering around with the idea of bitterblossom. Might cut the sylvan scryings and the tendrils to put them in. Which means I can cut the urborgs for reflecting pool.
As for the red in the SB, I keep insurance cards at all times, and with me still being able to produce red through birds, and mines, keeping 1 brion in the SB isn't that bad of an idea. I agree that gargadon doesn't die, and husk doesn't, but when I don't lay down the husk until the turn I can go off, and after that, it's just finished when I have a fink or a redcap out. Putting a doran in the deck might work a little better, but I think too defensively, so I've never thought about turning this into an aggressive deck, but I keep thinking about ways to get my combo off faster. Good stuff for the most part so far, I'll start testing tonight with some changes. |
i never said your list was sub optimal doran deck. and your list isnt that good your playing black just for husk and 2 tendrils. why is that better than red? |

| also you dont have to listen to me im just giving my opinion on the deck as ive tested this deck a lot and black isnt as good as red but maybe you like black so you can play black but at least play black for real cards and not just husk and 2 tendrils and then play red anyway in the sb, there is just no reason for that. |

| As I said, this thread is mainly for additions/changes. I'm using black with the main purpose of having the husk available, and my list did only have husk and tendrils...which is why i've gotten helpful advice for the colors I wanted to use. So far, bitterblossoms have been added, and it's proven useful. gogo "constructive help". not just blatantly saying "oh look, red's better, play that instead". if you didn't notice, the SB was just a blatant rip from keysam's SB, and i really only added in a heartmender...that was it. I didn't really change it at all, as I was looking at the main-deck first, and the random combo pieces in the board. The only thing I could think about is something like...maybe... shriekmaws? |

4 Juniper Order Ranger
2 Reveillark
4 Into the North
3 Wrath of God
3 Primal Command
3 Rite of Consumption
2 Oblivion Ring
7 Snow-Covered Forest
3 Snow-Covered Swamp
1 Snow-Covered Plains
4 Arctic Flats
3 Caves of Koilos
3 Llanowar Wastes
2 Reflecting Pool |

| Black just seems way better to me. I like Garagadon, but what exactly does Brion do to help you go off? You can only activate it once a turn, seems really slow. I'd rather have the husks, plus it gives access to thoughtseize and extirpate, etc. |

what i cant believe hasn't been reiterated is center425's way of including black. here is the list for those too lazy to look it up:
***center425's list***
-----------------------------
4 Treetop Village
4 Wooded Bastion
1 Pendelhaven
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
3 Reflecting Pool
2 Forest
1 Swamp
2 Llanowar Wastes
2 Brushland
3 Murmuring Bosk
3 Juniper Order Ranger
3 Murderous Redcap
3 Kitchen Finks
4 Nantuko Husk
2 Primal Command
4 Glittering Wish
4 Wall of Roots
4 Birds of Paradise
3 Doran, the Siege Tower
3 Bitterblossom
4 Thoughtseize
this seems like a wonderful way to implement the black version. now you have the combo incorporated with some of the strongest cards in the format. you get excellent protection and disruption with thoughtseize clearing the way, and wall of roots/doran/bblossom posting up fort in some situations, or, just winning in others. i actually didn't think switching to black would be good, but this angle just makes so much sense.
besides the whole "play a ton of good cards" thing, when you look closer, you end up actually getting a ton of symmetry as well, with bitterblossom turning husk from essentially a boring combo piece that costs 2 more then its alternative (gargadon), into an active addition to your aggressive doran subplan.
granted, i like the way this list is angled, but i actually think theres a lot of room for improvement here. moving from the original t4 list to this one, you're giving up 3 sulfurous blast and 3 oblivion ring to a total lack of removal. upping the urborg count and using tendrils as i've seen earlier in the thread is definitely not the way to go, but some number of damnations and oblivion rings could make back up for it obviously.
after all that, gargadon really is just better then husk for its purpose in the combo, along with being a better card all around the way it's utilized in the original list. so you have to remember moving to black isn't just for husk, on the contrary, you're moving to black in spite of husk. bitterblossom and redcap tricks help, but i still don't see a list that looks finalized. |

| Just played out the new version at my FNM. Ran into only one problem: faeries. The red version's got a way to deal with 'em through MD sulfurous blasts, but I don't really have an answer. I tried the 3 threshers in the side, but I couldn't deal with the faeries. Help? heh |
