Couldnt find an answer to this question, what do you think:
When austere command is cast and the options of killing creatures below and above casting cost 3 are chosen, will my token survive or not?
in other words: Does a token have a cc?
thanks in advance, boeda |

Any card with out a mana cost in the corner (includes tokens) has a converted mana cost of 0 and a casting cost of null (unpayable).
So austure command with the chosen mode of destroy all creatures with a converted casting cost of 3 or less would destroy all tokens (along with any other creatures with a cmc of 3 or less) |

actually, a token isnt a card, it can be represented by a card though.
So if the rules specify that it has to be a card in order to have a casting cost a token hasnt got a cc.
When I read your answer you might think that ancestral vision can be cast from the grave with dralnu ( for 0 that is).. But that isnt possible.
can anyone show me the actual rule on the casting cost of a token?

you are correct, they don't have a casting cost, but they do have a converted mana cost, which is 0 |

There is no such thing as a 'casting cost'. You have mana cost, converted mana cost and total cost.
The total cost is what you actually pay to play a spell or ability, and not really relevant here.
The mana cost is what is in the upper right corner of the card and the converted mana cost is the amount of mana in the upper right corner of the card. Not everything has a mana cost, but everything has a converted mana cost.
Most tokens won't have a mana cost and thus have a converted mana cost of zero. Tokens that are a copy of something, however, will have whatever mana cost the thing they were copying has (and thus the same converted mana cost too).
Also note that tokens are never cards. They can be represented by square forms of cardboard or paper, but as far as the rules are concerned, those are not cards. Only actual Magic cards are cards and tokens can never be actual Magic cards. |
