What would happen if you had a permanent that made a 2/x hybrid spell cheaper?
Suppose I wanted to play my Advice of the Fae (2/u,2/u,2/u) and I had Grand Arbiter Augustin IV or a Sunscape Familiar in play... could I play it for 1UU?
The spell is clearly blue so I assume this works, just an interesting interaction... |

| Yes, that is true, you could also play it for 5 or 3U because it is a blue spell, no matter what color mana you pay for it, so spells that reduce cost will effect it. |

The converted mana cost of the spell is 6. It will be reduced with 1.
So it would be 1/U,2/U,2/U |

The converted mana cost of a permanent never changes. Advice of the Fae has a CMC of six, always.
It is also always blue, no matter what you actually pay and the total cost (the cost you actually pay) can be reduced by Sunscape Familiar or Grand Arbiter Augustin IV.
It all depends on what you announce about how you're going to pay the hybrid. Basically, before you even calculate how much you need to pay, you announce how you're going to 'divide' the hybrid. In this case, the choices are 6, 4U, 2UU and UUU. Based on that, the cost reduction will try to apply. In the first three cases 'working' and changing the cost you need to pay to 5, 3U and 1UU respectively. In the last case it won't be able to 'work' and not change the cost. |
