Yes and that's why the champion creatures don't have CIP abilities and have when a creature is championed with abilites cuz the cards would get their effects whether or not they championed something...checks and balances. R&D did a good thing figuring that out. The cards would be too broken. Actually, not even fair IMO.

Since Champion is a drawback, I don't think cip abilities rather than other abilities would upset the card's balance of power.

But cip abilities on a creature you could choose to sacrifice would be more like Evoke, and that mechanic is already in the set!

When Confusotron comes into play, return target creature you control to its owner's hand.

When Confusotron leaves play, return target creature you don't control to its owner's hand.

... if Wizards made a card like this, they would be criticized for making a mess lol
