Ok if I champion a creature and in response to me playing the championing creature, my opponent destroys the creature I'm championing. Do I get to choose a new champion creature? I only ask because in the champion errata it doesn't specify to target a creature to champion, it simply says to remove A creature from the game when this comes into play.

So like I said, does the championing creature spell fizzle if the initial creature getting championed gets taken out?

Champion does not target. You don't choose which creature to champion until you actually champion it. They can't remove 'the creature you are about to champion' because they don't know which one it is.

And it therefor can not fizzle. Either you champion a creature, or, if you can't or don't want to, sacrifice the champion you just played.

The only way that would work for your opponent is if the creature he was killing was the only creature that you could champion with the championing creature.

Ok I am going to clear things up a little. The explanations provided are correct but if you want a technical version here it is:

You play a creature with the champion keyword and it goes on the stack.
Your opponent has a chance to respond before it resolves.
In the event that it does resolve, a trigger happens when it comes into play, this is the champion trigger. This trigger goes on the stack and upon resolution it requires you to 'champion' a creature that shares at least one creature type with the champion you just played. When this triggers and goes on the stack it DOES NOT target. This means that the creature is selected upon resolution of the effect and at that point your opponent does not have a chance to respond. IF your opponent chooses to respond while the champion trigger is on the stack, they may kill any number of creatures however if you have at least 1 creature that you may champion when the trigger would resolve then you will successfully retain your champion. If however they kill all creature eligible to be championed then your champion will have no choice but to move to the graveyard. (unless you respond with a flash creature before the trigger resolves and then champion the creature that you just flashed in)

championa creature:

(when this comes into play, remove a creature that shares a creature type with this from the game or sacrifice this)

when it comes into paly... there's a champion trigger. when the trigger resolves... do A or B...
A- championa creature
B- Sacrifice this

B is a legit choice if you dont want to champion away your best guy.

note that if a champion is lignified it 'forgets' that it has a champion trigger and you dont get the guy back

ok I have another question that is probably also dumb but I must ask for clarification...

simian spirit guide. Can you use his ability even if he is not in play? IE t1 you have no land in play remove him from the game from your hand and add R to your mana pool?

flame on...

Simian Spirit Guide says remove it in your hand from the game so that can only be done while it's in your hand.

You can thus, in fact, not use the ability if Simian Spirit Guide is already in play. You can only use it when it's in your hand.

i figured it was an activated ability but I didn't know if there had to be a spirit guide in play to use it or not.
