just played a guy who played a merfolk that said, "tap another merfold you control, "name" gains flying until end of turn."
He was tapping ever merfolk every turn to do things like gain life and such. I argued that once he tapped a merfolk the guy already gained flying and he couldn't tap another merfolk for the ability. |

The merfolk you're talking about is Mothdust Changeling. yes, you can tap 10 merfolk to give it flying, just as you can cast Battle Mastery on a creature who already has double strike, or tap a creature that is already tapped using Icy Manipulator, or tap a creature that is already tapped using Arena.
It was legal, and Mothdust Changeling is very good with merfolk. |

yea it is. That's almost broken right there. Guy's life was just skyrocketing every turn and I was doing 16 damage a turn. |

the only time u should rasie a fuss over tapping is if they ask u to let the flight ability resolve and THEN try to get the effect of the tap. the tap trigger clearly goes on the stack immediately when u activate mothdust changeling. they need to choose may YES _____ before the flight happens.
the card way better with mothdust is ceaseless searblades + soulbright flamekin. 6 lands plus those 10th pick commons = X+11/4 trample, where X = number of other guys you contorl. |

Not sure what Conkisstador is trying to say about letting the flight ability resolve. Whether you let it resolve or not you can still active it multiple times. Just because you let it resolve once and it gains flying doesn't mean you can't continue to give it flying. Multiple instances of flying doesn't do anything except get you the bonuses of having tapped creatures that do give you effects from their being tapped.
EX: Mothdust + Grimoire Thief + a way to untap Grimoire Thief = lots of milling.
Mothdust + Judge of Currents = 1 life for each merfolk tapped to give Mothdust flying (regardless of it having flying already or not). |

| Btw, if they copied that dude with vesuvan shapeshifter they could tap each for 2 life making 4 total life. The same way a vesuvan shapeshifter copying gemhide sliver can tap along with the gemhide for 4 total manas. |

At no point does it say "target creature that does not have flying, gains flying until end of turn".
