Alright... So, I was playing in my 2hg league the other day, and I had a Primal Command in hand, and some cloudthresher action in my graveyard. If I select shuffle graveyard into library and search library for a creature, can I get that cloudthresher or not? My other head assured me the answer is no, I'm not sure.

We ended up gaining 7 life, digging for a purity and losing.

Thanks in advance

I believe you can do the thing you wanted to do. Choose modes, then choose target, then play the abilities in the order you wish. Since the only targeting would be a graveyard, then you can shuffle your graveyard then search for that Cloudtresher. Works differently with profane command since you have to choose your targets before you get to resolve the spell.

I beleive the answer is yes you can

Since primal command doesnt say to do it in a specific order you would actually shuffle your graveyard into your library at the same time you search your library for a creature card
a better similar example is tooth and nail with the entwine being able to search your library for the 2x Creatures put them into your hand and at the same time choose those 2 from your hand and put them into play

If the card stated to search your libary for the creature card first before you shuffled your graveyard into your library you couldnt do it but since there is no set order specified on the card you are able to shuffle your graveyard into your library and search for a creature card in your library (even if the creature was in your graveyard at the time you cast the spell)

I know that you cant counter a creature spell with Cryptic Comand when Gaeas Herald or sth like that is in play, maybe it's the same

Actually, the modes of the spell resolve in the order in which they are printed on the card. So because the "shuffle your graveyard into your library" effect is printed before the "search your library for a creature" effect, you will in fact shuffle first, then search. So you could have gotten the Cloudthresher. Hope this helps.

Correct. You do things in the order listed on the card. You do not choose an order to do them.

And thus, given the order the modes are written on Primal Command you can do what you wanted to do.

Edit: Right. I knew that. I need to read more careful.

...but you can, because the shuffle effect is written before the search effect, right? (cant look it up again atm)

Um, yes he can.

The modes on Primal Command are written as follows:

- Gain 7 life.
- Put target noncreature permanent on top of its owners library.
- Target player shuffles his graveyard into his library.
- Search your library for a creature card, reveal it, and put it in your hand.

So, if you choose shuffle and find a creature, you shuffle your graveyard into your library first, then search for a creature card in your nice, newly shuffled library.

(It's also worth noting you can choose to put a nonland permanent on top of its owners library, then make them shuffle their graveyard iinto their library, effectively making them shuffle a nonland permanent back into their deck.)

Oh sorry, my bad, I should really read cards more carefully. I somehow read the second mode as the fourth. My bad, it works.
