has anyone else thought of the fact that the day morningtide is released, it becomes legal. This is going to shift the extended metagame in a vary strange way.
Big ones so far at mutavault and negate. And perhaps even maralen of the mornsong will make an impact in extended.

WHAT A PAIN IN MY ASS!!! extended is complicated enough as it is, lets add another set to it in the middle of the season!

Well anyways, it should be fun.

It's legal on the release date. There was a change of policy because players wanted to play with their new cards.

wizards does so much marketing scams its ridiculous, altho soon theyre going to run out of money because they give so much away at gps and pts but they do make a lot from modo, soon the hall of fame will have a lot of people in it and wizards will lose money from the players club

Don't listen to what lennin says. The day he answers nicely about someone or something is the day when tarmogoyf is going to be banned from magic forever. Razz

Mutavault

Land Rare
{T}: Add 1 to your mana pool.
1: Mutavault becomes a 2/2 creature with all creature types until end of turn. It's still a land.
Some changelings born at Velis Vel never return, but their essence never leaves.

Landstill anyone? We now have at least three playable man-lands a mono-blue landstill deck can use. Unfortunately, there is no Daze to back it up, but still, it's going to be played. You know it is. It's landstill. Pros love it.

Shard Volley
r
Instant Common
As an additional cost to play Shard Volley, sacrifice a land.
Shard Volley deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
"Let the mountain’s teeth pierce our oppressors"

Lightning Bolt anyone? Can you say "Synergy with Tarmogoyf?" Aggro decks don't care! What were they thinking? You could have made this card cost two mana and it would still be played as a four-of! You could have said sacrifice two lands and it would be played as a two-of finisher! Remember Fireblast? And this is gonna be in type two! This card is nucking futs!

I don't know about you guys, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say extended is gonna see a big makeover when the pros get their hands on that land.

Shard Volley has little synergy in extended with goyf. Most every deck gets a land in the graveyard turn 1 thanks to those 1 life search lands(forget the name for em)

Also, no it would not be played as a four of even at 2 mana.

The amazing thing about fireblast was that it cost 0 mana to play. This meant that you could do silly things like attack with ball lightning, lightning bolt, fireblast, fireblast on turn 4 for 17 damage. This card is not fireblast - it's lightning bolt with a drawback. It might see some play, but probably not much as long as rift bolt and incinerate are t2 legal. As for extended, it's even less relevant there.

I thought that they only became standard legal on release date and legal in other formats at a later date

"Format

* Extended-constructed format
* The Morningtide™ expansion is not legal for use in the Extended format until February 1, 2008. Events held prior to this date will not use the Morningtide expansion.
* Deck lists are required
"

Ok, as we see here, Morningtide is legal as of 1 Feb, 2008.

As for its impact in extended, I don't see anything incredibly groundbreaking coming into play. There might be a few cards added to lists, but that's about it. No new archetypes on the horizon.
