Soft Lock

Artifact

2

Rare

No Player can win or lose the game.

At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice a permanent with the lowest converted mana cost among permanents you control.

What now?

Was just an idea, but what do you think? Is the card too good, i like the idea, of stalling(which doesnt mean you will win). I mean a deck would need a ton of cards to ensure its winning(life gaining, Graveyard recusrion, protection for the card...) so i dont think its too good.

Your oppinion.

edit: It would be hellish fun in multiplayer(some want to protect you some hate you...)

edit 2: updated version.

You could drop this, let your opponent think "hey, I can't lose. Sure, I will not block". Then Boomerang it back to your hand.

that would be rather obvious. If someone dropped this on me the first thing I'd think is taking it out, the second would be to protect my life. I'd more likely block if this were out rather then it not being.

The card is 100% broken. Wins the game on it's own against aggro/ midrange decks that can't deal with it (e.g. a deck like manaramp). You don't care if you can't win the game because on turn 80 when you have complete control you can have like 1 boomerang in the deck so you can bounce it and win. So basically what I am trying to point out that the deck you would play this card in doesn't care whether it can't win the game if it's in play.

Platinum angel isn't broken because it's a creature, and thus much easier to remove than an artifact. This card would force decks to be able to deal with artifacts main deck or die to anyone who chose to play it.

This card would never be printed purely on the basis that it would encourage games to go to turn 100.

The best use of this would probably be to play in a deck without any artifacts (so your opponents wouldn't bring in hate) and then play it game two out of your sb, forcing the match to end 1-0 you.

In my oppinion its just an other version of Worship, or Solitary Confiment. Those cards are very similar, ok they need another card to work but the idea is similar. The thing is, even if you can lose the game it doesnt means you win, if your at -200 life you need to not only get control also you need to get 200 life before you can return it. But maybe your right, its just an idea Wink and vs control decks its almost an dead card...

The important part about other "you can't lose the game" and the vast majority of "stall" type cards is that they either 1) involve keeping creatures in play, which are inherently fragile or 2) have a built in way of forcing you to end their effect - I.e. with confinement by itself you'll eventually run out of cards to discard, or with stasis you'll eventually run out of ways to get blue mana.

This thing just comes down and says "this game doesn't end until I say so."

Sacrificing a permanent is probably too easy of a requirement to fulfill - theoretically the majority of your cards are going to be permanents of some kind. As it is, having to sac permanents could make this version slightly stronger, since it would then have a built in method of destroying itself. Still, it's workable. I would try one of these:

2

During your upkeep, sacrifice a nonland permanent.

or

1

During your upkeep, sacrifice a permanent with the lowest converted mana cost among permanents you control.

or

during your upkeep, sacrifice an artifact.

I like the lowest version one. (it means basicly you start cutting your lands down). So i go with thatone.

Any version of the card that lets you sacrifice a land combined with Crucible is disgusting.
