|

Ok so here is my idea. Basically it would be a magic-league.com taskbar program with multiple functions such as.
-Chatroom
-Tourny Notification
-Misc
I'm sure someone who likes the site or associated with the site could program it. I don't know about you but it would be pretty cool to have a pop-up the alerts you to all the random un-scheduled tounrys magic-league has. idk. comments? |

I think it's a great idea. I also think something like that takes lots of time and effort and I don't think many people would do it for free.
What I do know for sure is that there is already a thread for topics such as this and this should have been put there instead of here. |

what your talking about is something alternative to irc. That is both:
A) extremely hard to program
B) extremely inconvenient for just about everyone
People have channels and some even have connections to the current server. Not to mention the current method is very sound and it would be stupid to try changing an already very good method that every free league thus far has used.
See, you must actually know something about something, before suggesting this kind of thing.
And kendiggy, what are you talking about? |

wow, um, i think it would be a cool idea. maybe to hard to actually have work, but cool anyway.
i dont think it'd be that hard to find an open source notification program, mess with it a wee bit (or perhaps a great bit) and have it connect to Magic League to display when Tournaments are held. As far as the other options, I am kind of apathetic, but the tournament notification seems cool and maybe even possible. |

You assume magic-league created that chatroom.
Your wrong on that assumption, its on a irc server. The server itself has nothing to do with ML.
As for the notification program. What your suggesting is being done already, its those large banners. If your in the chat, those large ass banners blare on any channel your on telling you if theres a mini.
If your on the site, a sign up pops up.
Need more?
Download mIRC like the rest of us and just set it soo it beeps when you get a notice. Of course it'll beep for the time banners too but w/e.
Truth is you can't get any more notice then that for minis. Judges start the mini, start their script and it fills when it fills. There random. |

| It would be perfectly possible to have a program that makes a sound , or a little pop up every time a mini is open for entries. |

aside from how many notifications there already are, it wouldn't hurt to have one that doesn't require you to be on M-L in some way to receive the notification.
at least i don't think it would |

mIRC can make a beep. Hell if you know how you can pretty much make it play any song whenever a mini opens up. It'd be hard but easier then making a program.
However you can't do it without being connected to the server.
What cyruseli is suggesting is having a program connected to the site, so that whenever a judge opens up a mini it sends a signal beeping at all of you who have the program.
That is both extremely difficult and sucky. Minis would fill up three times faster and odds are unless you were literally sitting at your computer on your internet browser, you'd never get to enter in anything outside a no max. |

so you want your email to be cluttered with mini, trial, and master notices? lol, that is just a really bad idea. I dont know about you, but most people only check their email once or twice a day
Just refresh the main page. Does the same thing w/o spaming your email |

i think it's funny that people are still like "what a great idea, we could totally do it" even after someone who obviously knows a lot more about what's going on tells them how it is, and pressents an alternative (one that takes about 30 seconds to set up btw)
ha, keep up the great work guys |

wow your loaded
it depends, I mean and this is VERY difficult, but with some service plans you can check email with your phone, hell some even pop email up as txt messages. Technically you MIGHT be able to program mIRC to send you an email when a mini pops up. BUT I wouldn't even begin to know how the hell to do that, and it would depend largely on your service plan. |

First of all, forget about IRC whenever it comes to anything to do with the league. IRC is only the medium that we use to communicate. All the data about tournaments and stuff is in the web server.

It would be fairly easy to make a script that sends an e-mail to users when a tournament is created in the site's judge admin. There are a couple of major problems in the idea, tho:
1) When you receive the e-mail, the mini has probably filled already
2) You have to be at your computer to get the e-mail in time. And if you are there, why not just have the IRC open - especially as youhave to open it anyway to play.
3) M-L would get into trouble sending some 500 e-mails every 20 minutes.
There's lots of ideas being thrown about using Ajax in The New Site, so that you could automatically get a sound or such to notify when a mini is started or such as long as you have the site open.
The problem with The New Site of course is that it takes tons of work (and therefore tons of money) and as we're a free league... well, let's just say you may volunteer if you want to. |
