Also, they aren't legendary. They specifically made a different mechanic that goes by subtypes instead of names.

Probably to avoid the situation where you can have both Ertai, Wizard Adept and Ertai, the Corrupted in play.

but... you can have both in play...

Yes, but when they make evolved versions of the planeswalkers you wouldn't be able to have both in play, since they would have the same subtype and the planeswalker 'legendary' rule goes by subtype. That way they're avoiding the situation where you can have two versions of a legend in play.

Heh speaking of people not knowing planeswalker rules

in the finals at states the u/w merfolk player goes "attack with my guys thenbefore damage redirect the damage to your planeswalker" half the crowed LOL the judge kindly pointed out it was to late to deal damage to the planeswalker. but it was just sad.
