Does anybody know how far i can go in terms of coloring on a card for states? I believe its everything but casting cost and text but i just wanna maake sure cause i wanna dress up my goyfs and dont wanna go in and not be able to play em. And please dont call me a moron for doin that to a goyf cause i dont plan on gettin rid of em so i dont care about the value.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that you can't obscure or deface the art because it helps people keep track of the game state. I'm really not sure. They're probably doing you a favor by keeping you from flushing $80 down the toilet.

And out of idle curiosity, what exactly would you draw on a Tarmogoyf? It's a pretty amorphous brown monster on a dark green field.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ what he said.

But I *do* know you're not allowed to put little scraps of paper in the cases. Sad

A friend of mine had a Relentless Rats deck for T2 back in the day, and he tried to get away with naming all his rats. XD

Sadly, we can't give you a ruling either way, since it is up to the Head Judge to decide wether your cards are ok or not. The Floor Rules say the following:

Cards used in a tournament may not have writing on their faces other than signatures or artistic modifications. Modifications may not obscure the artwork so as to make the card unrecognizable. If modifications to a card are deemed by the head judge to constitute outside notes or unsporting conduct, the player using such cards will be subject to the appropriate provisions of the DCI Penalty Guidelines.

So basically, don't write on them and leave the artwork intact. But even then, it's up to the HJ.

from the UTR.

basicly artist sigs are fine, so is altering the art just keep the basic picture there like a guy i know made all his werebaers, carebears. it was gr8. lol

EDIT: damn got beat to that Wink if you like i can link you to some really good examples of card mods that alot of t1 players have done.

I used to color my cards. What looks good, and won't devalue any worthwhile cards is lands. I used to get the lands with the big mana symbol black out everything else. So my islands just had a blue water mark and black everything else.

It look really good, and if the HJ doesn't like it, you can switch your lands out. Do you have another playset of Tarmogoyf to change out?

Goyf's art is very ugly to start with so I don't think much disturbing things could be done with it.
