Why do you guys play? You probably have better things to do and almost all players end up losing more money than they make. Most of you guys will probably quit in a few years and say,"What a waste of my time I've spent all my hard earned cash on sets of Duals/other expensive cards". Magic makes you frustrated, annoyed and really pissed off, not to mention broke and almost always girlfriend-less. Even great former U.S. champ Craig Krempels is a lazy bum and the guy on the national team is a chinese food delivery guy. Please don't say "U suck cock im a mtg god" or other stuff like that. Just answer the question: What keeps you playing?

Please people if you answer seriously judges won't lock this post.

Well, I have kinda always liked playing magic. I like the card art and it gives me something to do to pass the time. Heck, most of the time, I just play in MWS. I own 1 - 60-card deck of magic cards, lol. Well, and one Alpha Black Lotus that is in my father's safe from way back when magic first came out, (My only ever really great pull, and NO you can't have it for any amount of money, it's like sentimental to me *shrug*)

I also play for the love of the game cuz it is fun, and IMO the people that aren't having fun, getting annoyed, and whining shouldn't even be playing. I mean why bother if you don't enjoy it?

Furthermore, I am a girl, I have a lovely fiance and a girlfriend. ^_^

I take care of all of the things I need to do before bothering with magic, it's just a game after all. If magic was to disappear from the face of the planet, it would suck, but I wouldn't get upset or anything, I'd probably draw, paint, read, and write more, but this allows me to escape from all that for a brief time to enjoy myself.

I don't really care for console video games, TV sucks anymore, and the number of good movies anymore gets slimmer all the time... so, instead of doing what the "masses" do, I do my thing, and if other people don't like it... well *shrug* ...well, that's their problem isn't it?

I dunno. I'm pretty good at strategy games, so I make more money than I spend (as long as I stick to draft and sealed, I'm not bad at constructed, but it's been my experience I don't win as often as sealed, and if you lose in sealed, at least you're going home with *some* product).

I also love trading. I love making deals and growing my collection of valuable cards - when I sold my collection the first time, back around when Odyssey came out, I got far more money out of it than I put into it.

I just started up a paper collection recently using stuff I drafted or won from drafts (about $40 entry fees) and now my binder is probably worth a solid $400, if I sold it on ebay.

Also, I have a girlfriend and she's pretty hot. Wink

In the end though, I play because it's fun. I'd quit tomorrow if I didn't enjoy it. Although, I could use some extra cash so I might hit up a local draft or two....

Well, you ask a perfectly Valid question. Be careful not to stereotype, though. Did you know a person can play magic, AND have a girl/boyfriend?

I play cause Im a Timmy/Johnny, if you know what I mean.

I dont waste tons of money making a physical netdeck. Thats not for me.

MWS is awesome because you dont waste money.

SO yeah, I Play magic to figure out connections and synergies between all the cards, and to juggle all the different bits and pieces of strategy involved.
It fun for me!

Why do I play?
-I like to build/tune/tweak decks.
-I enjoy watching/playing a good game(however few times they come around*sad face*).
-I enjoying the process of analyzing a metagame and identifying/building/tuning a strong deck against it.
-I enjoying discussing the strategy of the game with people.
-Its a good way to meet people with similar interests
-Its a good fall back for a slow Friday night

Why do I hate the game:
-the D&D style flavor of the game and the negative stigma it attracts
-the randomness of the game (mana screw, inability to draw business cards to save my life, going against an bomb ass hand/uber sealed deck)
-the money

I gotta say, it might be kind of weird but I think I enjoy the theory/discussion of the game probably more then I enjoy playing it.

Honestly its not the magic that really keeps them girlfriendless, generally its just the person, but yeah there is some sort of relation between the two. I believe though a lot of those girlfriendless magic players wouldn’t be any better off in the field if they dropped magic.

Does your fiance know about the girlfriend? I must stay, that is a very interesting statement.

Also I think ShadeMistres raises a good point; I’m sure I’ve wasted more time and money on shitty movies and television then I have in my 11 years of on and off magic play. PS: I canceled my cable, I would highly recommend it to everyone, television sucks.

Everyone has a good reason.

I started in Tempest. Met my best friend and we played for 6-7 years.

The main reason I kept playing was a lot of the guys that played were guys that didn't make friends easily and were usually girlfriendless. It's just a nice thing to see them being social I guess.

I stopped magic when I didn't have any money. Razz

Downloaded Workstation about a year or so later.

i play magic because i love being an amazingly good looking male that females love AND destroying nerds in a nerdy card game at the same time.

honestly, i am amazing at this game and love beating people.

and, i am amazingly good looking.

http://www.myspace.com/the1337christian

and the females love me.

it is very satisfying to go into a PTQ and bring along ur super hott girlfriend that is only there cuz u told her to come and end up top4ing and beating a bunch of fat smelly nerds. i mean, they get furious that you beat them, and then they get FURIOUS that i'm super good looking and brought along a super hot girlfriend.

ok, ill admit, i love the thinking part of it too.

but i love beating people and rubbing it in their faces the most.. especially because i am good.
