hi i just was thinking about the old 5 colors slivers decks that my friend used to have. he gave me something like this.

AT LEAST build a decent manabase.. you can run fetchlands and double lands from alpha sets.. use them! And if you really want to run 5 colors, use some rainbow lands too (aether vial would be nice too).
Don't expect to come out with a very nice deck, anyway. |

The quality of a deck can be measured in part by the number of uniquely named cards it runs. Obviously there are exceptions (restricted cards in Vintage, wishboards, etc.), but cards are generally separated into three categories: cards that are really good in your deck, cards that are suboptimal but can still be considered due to lack of stellar options, and cards you just don't want to see.
If you're lucky enough, you can build a deck with the best of the best. In that case, you're running 4 of most cards because you want to see as many of each card as possible, as consistently as possible. With all the slivers in print with stacking abilities, there's really no reason to run so many 2-ofs and 3-ofs. Just use the most efficient slivers.
This can be extended to the idea of running a 5-color deck: you're trading consistency for flexibility. Splashing gives you great cards like Duress, StP, etc. But what if you can't cast them due to mana problems? This is especially relevant when using mostly basic lands.
As others have suggested, take a look at other successful sliver decks (most notably countersliver in recent times) and see what they use. Drop down to 2 colors if using mostly basics, or 3 colors with a ton of duals and fetches. Use the common Terramorphic Expanse for further cheap-to-get mana smoothing.
At the same time, consider your sliver choices. 8 Muscles is great if running White and Green. Variants running Red/Black should consider Sedge Sliver as Muscles 5-8 or 9-12 (yes, they stack too). If splashing blue, especially in the hate-filled Legacy meta, Crystalline is an autoinclude. Concentrate on smaller slivers (1-2 cost) and minimize the number of colored mana symbols in the costs when possible, especially as the number of colors goes up.
While the Sliver Legends are great, they fall into the problem of "Dangers of Cool Things." They are simply too hard to cast, and useless in the opening hand. On the other hand, they're awfully fun in casual games.
Rather than using the Legends, and to keep a measure of casual fun to the deck, consider cards like Virulent Sliver and Screeching Sliver for alternate win conditions.

Vial is great, as you can avoid counters and manascrew, AND you can play nasty combat tricks like making guys bigger, giving them first strike, etc. all at instant speed. At a few bucks each, they're a cheaper way to add some fun and consistency than getting dual lands, and are a further reason to restrict yourself to the low casting cost slivers (which in turn helps consistency even more).
The closing statement is true as well. It seems like even Countersliver is in decline, which bodes rather poorly for this particular tribe. Even Goblins are in decline, and they have great library manipulation built in to help them out as well as a suite of land-based mana disruption in standard builds, something slivers can't afford because of the color complexity.
The main problem with tourney-viability is the need to overcommit. A single Tarmogoyf can do the work of two Muscles at half the cost and half the card count. Putting a bunch of slivers on the board is vulnerable to sweepers at worst, and slower than creatures like Goyf at best. But hey, I love slivers and they're certainly a blast in casual play. So have at it. =)
You can expect to make a reasonably lethal casual sliver deck on a budget by dropping a couple of colors and concentrating on card quality and consistency. You can keep the deck cheap this way (nothing wrong with using old lands like Karplusan Forest or even Mogg Hollows). Dropping colors and lowering casting costs will allow you to run fewer mana-producers, drop the Signets and Gemhides, and play more utility (removal/disruption/library manipulation) to give you some time as you build your sliver army. |

I too have a 5-color sliver deck, however, mine has lairs, which yours needs as well
combo lairs with gemstone mine and you're good to go. |
