|
|
I don't know how many of you play this format, but we play it at least once a month at my local shop. If you're not familiar with it, you play any block constructed deck from any block with that block's b&r list, against other block decks from other blocks. It's a lot of fun. The common decks are my store are Invasion 5-color Domain control, Ice Age B/r Suicide Necro, Mirrodin Big Red (most popular), Onslaught RW Slide, Ravnica Gruul/Zoo, Kamigawa WW, and Odyssey UG Madness.
What do you think the best deck in the format is? I have tried a lot of decks, and had fun with them all, but I'm fishing for some new ideas too. I played Urza Replenish last time, but it's not much fun to play against, though I did win. We've hardly explored Tempest Block or other Urza block decks - I have no idea if anything from Masques or Mirage is viable (Sandsipoise?). And I have no idea about the potency of anything from Time Spiral block.. What deck would you guys suggest? |

Noone playing any kind of giftsdeck?, i like them a lot.
And back in the urzas days there where some pretty powerful cards.
You could go the enchanment way (you posible did with replenish but you can also go an other way) Energy Field + Planar Void, Argothian enchantress, Some of the green enchantments becoming creatures, Maybe some worhsip for more control, Phyrexian Prozessor ftw something like that.
Or you could go an completly other way and créate some metalworker artifact deck.
You could build some Cycling combo deck with fluctuator(i had one back in the days but not for block but there are enough posibilities to abuse this) Dont forget you got dark ritual in the block and Yawgomoths Bargain, and yawgomoths will... I just dont know where to stop the urzas block where so powerful i mean you only have to look at the banned cards to see that:
The following cards are banned in Urza Block tournaments:
- Gaea’s Cradle
- Memory Jar
- Serra’s Sanctum
- Time Spiral
- Tolarian Academy
- Voltaic Key
- Windfall
all those cards are amazing and you see the sheer power of the block(most of them are/where banned in legacy + restricted in Vintage...)
I hope i had some ideas of use for you and wish you all the best luck and fun. |

13 [OD] Island (1)
// Spells
2 [TSB] Disenchant
2 [6E] Power Sink
4 [US] Attunement
4 [9E] Confiscate
4 [9E] Worship
4 [UD] Replenish
4 [7E] Opposition
4 [UD] Opalescence
4 [US] Lilting Refrain
4 [UL] Frantic Search
// Sideboard
SB: 2 [TSB] Disenchant
SB: 2 [6E] Power Sink
SB: 3 [MR] Annul
SB: 4 [UD] Powder Keg
SB: 4 [9E] Defense Grid
or a gifts deck from Kamigawa block |

I did play Replenish before, but it rolls over to a single counterspell. I lost to Invasion Domain (Global Ruin hurts too) and I think it would lose to Time Spiral BU Teachings/Dralnu (actually a very good deck for this format, I think). But it is obviously good against decks that don't expect it and have no answers like Mirrodin Big Red.
Rath Hatred obviously posted good results here, but I don't quite get why it's so great. Doesn't it lose to decks like Gruul/Zoo that can just burn you to a lower life total, negating your hatreds, then race you with bigger creatures against your shadow ones?
I think Urza Hermit/Opposition would be great, but very expensive to make (Morphling, for example).
What kind of Gifts deck would you make? I have the Gifts, but I'm not sure how to play the ones from Kamigawa block, because I didn't play then. Also, obviously some of the Arcane/Spirit cards are useless against other blocks. I also never understood the splash for Godo, Bandit Warlord - just to get Jitte out? If someone could go into more detail about the Gifts decks, I'd appreciate it. |

My personal first attempts would be Invasion Domain, there's just so much late game sexiness going on for the deck.
It also seems like rebels (Masques Block) or counter sliver (tempest block) could form a really potent aggro control deck.
Don't forget that Yawgmoth's Bargain, Academy Rector, and Phyrexian Tower are all legal. |

Could you give me a list for Counter-Slivers? I've seen the Legacy ones, but not tempest... it seems like you have pretty weak duals, and no FoW or Daze...
Also, I did see a Rebels deck win at the old deck listings here, but I have no idea how that deck really works...all the cards look really weak on paper without Lin-Sivvi.
How is Academy Rector usually put in the yard? Does it go in Replenish decks or combo with something else? I didn't play from Urza to Onslaught, or during Kamigawa, so I'm still playing catch-up. |

Well just pick any of the best decks that you're most comfortable with. The best decks are...
Tier 1
Rath Cycle Suicide Black
Replenish
Goblins
Tier 2
OBC Mono-black Control
U/G Madness
But any good deck can be competitive in this format, with only slightly worse results. |
