If Tarmogoyf cost 2G we wouldn't even be having this discussion, all the naysayers would say it is broken.
aka, the naysayers are wrong. |

| It does cost 1W, it's that 3/1 cat warrior, and got 2nd in a trial. So think before you contest me. |

| anyway that WWru deck is bad. The 3/1 would be good but with Sulfur Elemental in the meta it is bad. |

If you are aiming for the late game then Gruul isn't the deck for you. With or without Tarmogoyf you are at disadvantage.
BTW if it costed 2G it wouldn't be mediocre. It would be completly useless! |

its just a metagame choice to be perfectly honest. the card it potentially replaces is usually Tin Street Hooligan. There are fewer and fewer signets to blow up in the metagame today. The most common decks are shifting in the direction of Dragonstorm combo and the aggro creature decks.
Tin-Street is never anything more interesting then a 2/1 in these matchups, which is playable but clearly boring and slightly underpowered considering your other 2 drop is a 3/3.
Against dragonstorm you're opponent is going to give it a minimum of +2/+2 from his own deck manipulation (instants and sorceries). 2/3 Tarmogoyf is just as fast as the Hooligan. And it will ocassionally get up to 3 power off an enchantment or creature in the yard, making it your best possible two drop.
The other matchup its appealing in is a creature-aggro mirror. Its pretty beefy in the late game and can see 3/4 or 4/5 on occasion.
The point is its not the the 'Goyf is so strong in its own right, its merely decent. Its that its probably better then Tin-Street Hooligan in this metagame. If you don't like either you can just go ahead and toss in volcanic hammer or something. |

Tarmogoyf is at its best against mirror. Thats why I put it in the SB. Normally it will come down as a 3/4 or 4/5, and you don't cast it on the second turn. If you build you deck right, theres plenty of other 2cc critters that you can cast in the first couples of turns. And I don't take out ANY 2cc for this crit, I'd usually take out G.Solifuge and some something else (3cc but NOT call of the herd obv). So those who said Tarmogoyf is bad, I say NAY, we are but man~!

| Tarmogoyf is by far the most powerful card in the set. By far. It was almost always a 4/5 for G1 in the deck I piloted to 9th place in Western PA regionals this weekend. |

To their defense, it did take a little while before Tarmogoyf got its status as one of the best 1G drops ever. This discussion is around the time when people made Tarmogoyf decks - intended to put various card types in the gy to exploit him.
It was only when people realised that they didn't have to that he "took off". |

Indeed, I don't think your attempt at a 'dis' is very warranted, fact is alot of ppl got tarmogoyf wrong.
Not that the bump is appreciated anyway -_- |
