|
|
Ok, so I was tuned to the PT Yokohama coverage, and Jose Luis Echeverria (8-0 in day 1) was playing against Raphael Levy in Round 15:
Table 2 Echeverría Paredes, Jo [CHL] 34 vs. Levy, Raphael [SWE] 33
The winner will be for sure in Top 8. Levy won the 1st game, then mulliganed to 4 on second game. And then in wizard's coverage I read this:
"... Teferi was extremely valuable as a suspended Gargadon stopper. José didn't want to risk his Zhalfirin, and he traded his facedown for the Darwin. Eron came down post-combat.
José finally drew his Swamp. Eron suddenly died, and in came Teferi to bring the life totals to José 8, Raphaël 4. With one counter on one of the Gargadons and three counters on another, Raph could instantly win this game with a topdecked Disintegrate for Teferi. It wasn't there, so Lévy played his Keldon Marauders and suspended Rift Bolt instead, making the life totals 7 all. José played another Sudden Death on the Marauders and attacked with Teferi, bring the life totals to 6-1. The resolved Rift Bolt brought José to 3, and Lévy, in a calmness most of us can only dream about, flashed another Rift Bolt to José, earning the Hall of Famer the game, the match, and (probably) his spot in the Top 8. The audience calmly applauded, although the Swedish contingent was heard to let loose a small whoop."
So, we all understand Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir was in play under Jose's control... and then "Lévy played his Keldon Marauders and suspended Rift Bolt instead, making the life totals 7 all. José played another Sudden Death on the Marauders and attacked with Teferi, bring the life totals to 6-1. The resolved Rift Bolt brought José to 3, and Lévy, in a calmness most of us can only dream about, flashed another Rift Bolt to José, earning the Hall of Famer the game, the match, and (probably) his spot in the Top 8."
I ask, how the fuck could Lévy play his SUSPENDED Rift Bolt if Teferi was in play??... he is a Pro-Player, I think he should know its not good to suspend Rift Bolt when a Teferi is in play... but no one noticed this and Levy won that game!!!
Do you think Levy knew that anyway he would lose the game, and suspended rift bolt expecting nobody notice it? (ON A FEATURE MATCH!)... or he just made a mistake and won because of it?[/i] |

I had to reread to make sure, because I thought it had said double Rift Bolt somewhere.
Wow, who was watching that match? |

| I believe it to be neither cheating or a mistake. It's obviously a coverage mistake, he played the rift bolt to the head, not suspended it. |

| I would say it's a coverage mistake also... He had enough mana to play rift bolt and keldon it seems weird that someone that knows the rules would make a mistake like that and his opponent who also knows the rules wouldn't catch it... |

| Most likeley, it's a covarage fault, but it seems not all that impossible that it actuly happened, Heezy played a Extirpate (in the semifinals) as a respone to a spell with Wafo-Tapa having a Teferi in play and got a away with a warning, it wasn't noticed before first after the game... |

now you guys need to read it all and not just see the suspended part and assume its amistake.. now i would understand if it was amistake and the right life came up but its still 6-1.... now you guys are right he does have enough mana to drop a rift bolt cause he did have eron in play! obviously 3 for bolt and 2 for marauders would make sense... but send an email to someone and find out instead of speculating..

| it was a coverage mistake because i was on the mtg boards while watching the video coverage and many people talked about this including the person who wrote up the coverage. He said he was sorry for the mistake and it was obviously and mistake on his part. |

So you assume that 2*times GP in a row winners suspends rift bolt with teferi on the board .
Nevertheless teferi has been a hudge source of warnings this Weekend. I think it's really because people do have reflex (they do things without even thinking to them because they did it so many times) and sometimes don't realize they aren't working the same way under teferi (like for herberholz play).
But raph is far over that, he's a hall of famer, ffs ! |

well Raichoup, you were right. From Ask The Pro in mtg.com:
April 24, 2007
Q: Did you really suspend a Rift Bolt against Teferi at Pro Tour-Yokohama?
-Various readers
A: (From Raphaël, through coverage reporter Noah Weil, who said that Raphaël chided him for erroneously reporting that Levy had suspended Rift Bolt through Teferi in Round 15):
Folks, Lévy has never and will never suspend Rift Bolt when Teferi's in play. Happy to resolve that, Lévy went to give blood before tithing his winnings to an orphanage. We hope that clears his good name.
So, it was not cheating (sry Lévy ), but it WAS a mistake: from the coverage reporter! |
