with dralnu , how much would i end up paying in total for
playing Spell Burst from my graveyard with X = 4 and having it come to my hand as part of the resolution?
and why?
also with Grand Arbiter Augustin IV in play, does it cost "that" minus 1 total?
im so rusty, it blows. |

You can't buyback from flashback; it is still removed from the game.
Augustin reduces the spell cost by 1. |

Correct
You CAN pay for the buyback but it will not do much useful, because a card with flashback has the ability of "If this spell would leave the stack after resolving or being countered to any zone, remove it from the game instead."
So buyback, remand or whatever would put it in your hand, but then flashback makes it go to the remove from game zone INSTEAD.
About costs, a spell costs is determined by 3 things:
Mana cost + Extra costs - Reductions.
playing a spell with flashback has a special rule: you can play it form the grave using the flashback cost instead of the mana cost. It is still being played though, and thus grand arbiter augustin will reduce it by 1. considering there are no extra costs (for example, buyback would be an extra cost but that is not useful together with flashback) the cost will be:
Flashback Cost + 0 - 1 generic mana.
(Note that augustin cannot reduce colored mana) |

Do you have any idea how this works with the new Venser from FS? It doesn't counter the spell, just bounces it while its on the stack. |

The rules say:
"If the flashback cost was paid, remove this card from the game instead of putting it anywhere else any time it would leave the stack."
That about covers any situation...
If a flashback card gets hit with Venser, it's still removed from the game. |

| One way to think of it, which will answer any questions is, think of flashback removes the spell from the graveyard then puts a copy on the stack. Now if the spell gets remanded, memory lapse'd, etc, the spell's still gone, which is actually how the flashback mechanic works... |

| What happens if you take a Spell Burst with muse vessel and you play Spell Burst with buyback, does it return to your hand or your opponents hand? |
