This deck has been doing quite well on MWS in these past few days. I have played over two dozen games against a wide variety of players. The results were nice.
//Land
20 Island
3 Deserts
1 Dreadship Reef
//Creatures
4 Serendib Sorcerer
3 Fathom Seer
2 Vesuvan Shapeshifter
3 Draining Whelk
4 Riptide Pilferer
3 Willbender
2 Deep-Sea Kraken
4 Crookclaw Transmuter
//Spells
4 Ovinize
4 Snapback
3 Dismal failure
I love Ovinize because it is literally the easiest way to block out a beefy creature from your opponets side. Heh, I even got a Greater Gargadon to die to my Riptide Pilferer...So cool to see that happen. Especially once they go through all that sacrificing to get it out there. But the point of the deck is to force opponets into a false attack, and block off their creature. I should call this Baracade.
One weekness I see coming is some kind of 'can't be the target of spells or abilities' creature, or after time, general people should be able to tell what I am doing and plan against it...Though it is a really fun deck to play with.
The list is still a little sketchy, but I hope to work out the kinks in it soon. Any thoughs on future matchups, or suggestions on card choice is welcomed.
Still debating on Serendib Sorcerer or not...he kinda shows your opponet what will happen before it happens...so they can plan against it. |

Yeah, he was origionally in here, but he saw next to no play since most of the critters in the block are equal in their toughness.
I know that sorcery and ovinize will kill with him, but it just seemed easier to just wait for your opponet to come in with a creature and to snap it's head off with a blocker. |

This is what've been playing and developping in Block
// Lands
16 [TSP] Island (2)
2 [TSP] Gemstone Caverns
2 [TSP] Urza's Factory
// Creatures
1 [TSP] Draining Whelk
1 [TSP] Riftwing Cloudskate
4 [PLC] Riptide Pilferer
1 [TSP] Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir
4 [TSP] Fathom Seer
1 [TSP] Coral Trickster
4 [TSB] Lord of Atlantis
// Spells
3 [PLC] Dismal Failure
3 [TSP] Ancestral Vision
4 [PLC] Piracy Charm
2 [TSP] Temporal Eddy
4 [TSB] Psionic Blast
4 [TSP] Cancel
4 [TSP] Snapback
I'll cut the random 1offs soon, they are still in there from the time when the deck also played Mystical Teachings.
Best play is obviosuly a turn1 Riptide Pilferer on the Draw, followed by Island with 1 or 2 Cancels holding.
IT beats any blue decks, thanks to LOrd of Atlantis and its Islandwalking, but has real problems POST-board with Dodecapods.
I liked the Coral Tricksters very much during testing and will increase their amount.
Against aggro, i havent tested much yet, but Snapback,Temporal Eddy and PSiblast should be a nice defensive force. |
