It would be great if Magic League introduced Highlander (as described in the article published on magicthegathering.com this monday) as one of main sanctioned formats.
Would anyone be interested in that? From the point of view of having to get hold of many unique cards, I see it actually better to play highlander on mws than in real Magic.
This format is real fun and offers almost endless possibilities. |

| Don't like that Highlander version at all. The banned list and the no-sideboard idea in particular are highly questionable. The only Highlander I've played and really liked in the past has very simple rules: it's just T1, with every non-basic land card limited (and you can play 60 cards and a sideboard). I could open some event for THAT Highlander if there are enough players interested, but not this other one, not at all. |

highlander is too broken in the format that was posted on mtg.com
however, this is somewhat better
http://www.aztlan-promotions.com/typedangray.html
i believe the league can add more cards to the ban list, like planor portal (9th), volrath's stronghold, academy ruins, damonic collusion ect.
this format is however, much slower :p |

| Why is it 100 cards? Something to do with the movie? |

T1 highlander is too easy since most decks run lots of restricted cards anyway.
1.x highlander has always been fun. We used to play the 60card version on here a few years ago. |

Maybe I like T1 Highlander because I like T1
The format is quite good, but maybe it deserves the banning of Tendrils of Agony, and maybe even Darksteel Colossus / Tinker too. |

tinker is already banned in highlander.
It also is t1, I dont really think extended has enough cards to make a focused 100 card deck of 1 ofs :/
The format is really fun howerver, I have my own deck |

Hey guys. A couple of you have been seriously considering highlander as a tourney viable format?
If I were a judge lol I would run,
Highlander 1 of everything except basic lands
EXT
60 min 15 sb
The regular bannings for cards are as follows for the Ext format.
This is alot of fun and we actually do this about once a month at my local card shop. Usually swiss to give new people a chance to see good decks in action and people who have been playing a while to either change it up or compete against a deck they played a while back and lost to.
Either way its alot of fun, because you have alot of versatile decks in the format, with no incredibly broken cards that legacy has like tinker or diabolic tutor. Those kind of cards make the format not fun because at that point it's just another format where you win turn two or three.
The point of highlander is to have a versatile deck and alot of fun yet different outcomes. Consistency in the deck is key. I do have a highlander put together as well as some of my friends, if you would like to run a couple of extended matchups or even playing my deck vs t1.5 i would like to play. Let me know

I like highlander as a format too, but there are so many formats available that call themselves highlander.
I myself played highlander 7 years ago for the first time and it indeed was the version with the usual 60 cards + 15 sideboard. There was also a banlist (yes, it was t1) but I don't remember what it was like.
Still, the format will remain one of the formats as played in the "other" category. In the format list it is only listed as a format with 1 off's of everything except the non-basic lands without any ban-list or further deck construction restrictions.
I would gladly add more comprehensive rules considering deckbuilding for highlander, as long as the input is coming from you.

I'm one of the few that can say I play type DG irl When I went to gp arizona a while back I played in the beta dual land tournament, and no one knew how the format was played, they just put together 100 good cards. I was sure I had it but I played against a deck with every xR burn spell in the game, and I couldn't counter my way out of it.
I love the format though, if any highlander tournament is played it should be this one. |
