I've been playing Flare for a while and I wanted to know about some BW control decks cause it seems to work better with my meta at fnm and I wont need that many cards for the deck.

I saw a version that ran 4 damnations and 4 wraths. seemed to work good. got first. He also ran two debtors' knell.

Well, you really just need to start out with a cardpool to start choosing from the variation of card uses. Using gatherer by color for t2 can help.

Since you are wanting to play b/w control start off with your creatures / kill condition. These are pretty standard creatures to use.

Angel of Despair
Akroma
Skeletal Vampire
Dimir House Guard ( if you want tool box )
Plague Sliver
Voidstone Gargoyle

Now start thinking about what control cards you wanna use. Look for a combination of board control and hand control.

Wrath of God
Damnation
Faith's Fetters
Condemn
Persecute
Mortify
Castigate
Smallpox / Cruel Edict
Extripate ( great card right now )
Temporal Isolation
Sudden Death

Now you need to think about some accel cards or some added tech.
Sacred Mesa
Orzhov Signet
Phyrexian Arena
Phyrexian Totem
Zombify
Debtor's Knell
Peace of Mind

Sideboards vary alot but you probaly wanna add graveyard removal , more forms of board control / hand control based on your meta

Tormonds Crypt
COP Red
Nightmare Void
Honorable Passage
Sacred Ground
Disenchant
Porphyry Nodes

Land is pretty straightforward
4 godless shrine
4 caves of koilos
2-3 orzhov basillica
4x flagstones of trokair

you have option os vesuva and urza's factory as well, but use em once you figure out the curve.

uh heres the list i currently play, although it may not be the best

// Lands
4 [TSP] Flagstones of Trokair
4 [GP] Godless Shrine
4 [AP] Caves of Koilos
2 [TSP] Urza's Factory
1 [TSP] Vesuva
2 [GP] Orzhov Basilica
3 [TSP] Plains (3)
3 [TSP] Swamp (4)

// Creatures
2 [LE] Akroma, Angel of Wrath
1 [RAV] Dimir House Guard
2 [GP] Angel of Despair
2 [PLC] Voidstone Gargoyle

// Spells
2 [9E] Persecute
4 [9E] Wrath of God
4 [GP] Orzhov Signet
2 [GP] Debtors' Knell
4 [GP] Castigate
4 [9E] Phyrexian Arena
3 [RAV] Faith's Fetters
4 [GP] Mortify
3 [DIS] Condemn

// Sideboard
SB: 3 [TE] Circle of Protection: Red
SB: 2 [TSB] Sacred Mesa
SB: 2 [9E] Persecute
SB: 2 [7E] Sacred Ground
SB: 3 [TSB] Tormod's Crypt
SB: 3 [PLC] Extirpate

white martyr could be okay in some situations with debtors knell active, but by the time you get the combo active, you gotta think about what white cards you should be holding and how many. Is it gonna be worth more stealing your opponents creatures or the martyr.

It could be good though, I just havent tested it. If you wanna try the martyr route, maybe tune the build for some more white control and splash black.

As for skeletal and akroma. Both cards are good but I have never really liked the vampire. Akroma has awesome evasion and has done more damage than using the vampire.

Just on the martyr comment, it doesn't have to be using the combo to be good. It holds off an early swing and gains an easy 12 life early game. It singlehandedly can give you the win vs aggro. Do play around with it if you can't handle aggro.

Take a look in my BW Control. It works pretty good so far but im still testing it.

//NAME: BW Control
2 Wrath of God
2 Damnation
3 Faith's Fetters
4 Mortify
4 Castigate
3 Persecute
2 Phyrexian Totem
3 Condemn
3 Hide/Seek (i'm still thinking about a 4th in md)
3 Orzhov Signet
3 Phyrexian Arena
2 Dimir House Guard
1 Debtors' Knell
1 Akroma, Angel of Wrath
2 Angel of Despair
2 Urza's Factory
2 Flagstones of Trokair
4 Caves of Koilos
4 Godless Shrine
5 Swamp
5 Plains

SB: 4 Extirpate
SB: 4 Defense Grid
SB: 4 Sacred Ground
SB: 3 Ivory Mask

I run 2 damnations and 2 wraths cause of extirpates.

Hide//Seek is very usefull cause u take a look in opponents deck and remove a usefull for him card plus gain life.It complete cripples combo decks or decks with few win conditions.Saves your one life too in hard situations against a really fast aggro.

Dimir House Guard is a key/tool box.You can tutor at round 3, so in round 4 you got the persecute which is many times a game card, or you can tutor wrath/damnation or faiths fetters. In game 2 you can also tutor the ivory mask.

I dont run 4 flagstones cause of blood moon.I need at least 10 basic lands.

In SB i play the extirpates usualy against every black or splash black deck, and i focus to remove their extirpates.
Defense Grid is a game against control,Ivory mask against monoblack(consume spirit) and red(demonfire), and finally Sacred ground against LD and 3color fire(wildfire).

OVERALL: the deck has enough gain life, many and different win conditions, board and hand control.
