I wrote a new program that lets you play Magic against the computer. (Sorry you can't play against the computer right now.) Right now there are 300+ card available. You can play in three modes: constructed (all the cards), sealed, and draft.

The card set is the best of Magic, and includes such cards like Ancestral Recal, Juzam Djinn, Flametongue Kavu, Man-O'-War, all the moxes, Kokusho, the Evening Star, Keiga, the Tide Star, as well as favorites likes Wrath of God, Psychic Blast, Serra Angel, and even the new Planar Chaos card black Wrath of God, Damnation.

E-mail me any comments good and bad, I want to make it the best I can. mtgrares at yahoo com

it's legit, i will admit that i was skeptical at first too, but checking the link in your browser shows that it IS the sourceforge project page. i haven't downloaded any of the files, but it seems like a neat little home brew magic program. i can glean from the screenshots that the GUI is somewhat lacking, but at least it's in english [for all of us English speakers], making it slightly easier to use than magic machine.

this project only has 300 cards and has been in the works for over a year. It really goes to show how difficult programming a magic playing program is, let alone AI. nice work i say to you sir.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

This program isn't a virus. My program it is all Java, so you don't have to run some unknown exe file. There is no isntallation either, just unzip the files in a dirctory and double-click on the jar file.

I write this program because I wanted to play fast, quick games against the computer. Even though the AI is basic, the computer can topdeck some great cards, so I think it feels realistic.

Double post much?

Anyway, coding a magic program isn't that difficult. It's the AI that would take eternity -- quite literally. The gatherer.wizards database contains 14000 cards. That's over two google (2 x 10^100) deck possiblities PER PLAYER assuming everyone was using a standard 60-card deck.

I have a feeling magic is too complex a game to succesfully ever implement a competitive ai. It would always be slightly lacking, even if just because it wasn't able to read the cards in your hand based on the plays you had made up to that point etc.

not to mention there's no motivation for the tech industry to make a piece of software that could do it sonce all of the parameters are so specific. the program would be useless beyond being able to play magic and this game certainly does not quite have the prestiege that chess does.

A new version was just released. Landwalk was added!!!

This is a great program that lets you play Magic against the computer using all of the rules. It has more than 450 cards and also lets you play sealed and draft. It has a wide variety of cards like Wrath of God, Damnation, Serra Angel, Lighting Bolt, Ancestral Recall, all the Moxes, Kokusho the Evening Dragon, and 3 Planeswalkers. The AI is basic but it is good enough.
