This is probably a stupid question:

Can split second respond to split second? I thought the answer was no, until I went to a local shop and they thought otherwise. Thanks!

your shop sucks.

Nothing that uses the stack can respond to Split Second.

Do the people at your shop know how to read?

Can it be any clearer? players CAN'T play...

Good to know I know how to read Shocked

If it was true, I was going to start a campaign to bring back pre 6th edition rules.

No. Once you play a card with split second, it immediately goes on the stack and cannot be responded to with anything other than a mana ability.

The place you play at is wrong and should really learn more about the rules, especially simple rules like this one before hosting tournaments.

wouldn't it be able to be stopped by a static ability?

Uh, no..no it wouldn't be stopped. Static abilities can't be...stopped. If so to say i had a split second on the stack, and you somehow put a static on the stack, which doesn't use the stack....then you can't play anything in response the static ablity, which can't be put on the stack, but is for some godly reason.

Edit- because the ability is still on the stack, and the split second reads "as long as this ability is on the stack...."

So, I come from the school of fast effects and dark ritual being a mana source. And got back in during mirrodin, so 6th edition is a learning process. When I play a spell, is it automatically put on the stack, or can its being put on the stack be responded to?

In addition: At the prerelease, I used the new sorceress queen wizard, and I was told about the new ruling on enchanted creatures, so a shock wouldn't kill a , lets say, 0/3 with an undying rage on it. Can someone elaborate, and let me know about some more surprises I might come across?

I don't know what the hell brottor is trying to say, but static abilities don't use the stack, so if someone uses a split second card, u can morph up a creature if you want to before the split second thing resolves.

Also, Richard, once you announce a spell, it goes to the stack.

say you have Sudden Death targetting a creature and you morph up Voidmage Apprentice (which can be done...because morph is a static ability and can be done in response to Sudden Death) then Sudden Death is countered.

morph creatures are freaks...simple put...
