Did you look at his list? Just because people play it doesn't make it good.

Manaless Ichorid is a gret deck in T1. It can be hated very much post side, and could easily lose both 2nd and 3rd game against a prepared deck, but it has high possibilities to win the first and the others too if the opponent is not prepared.

Regarding the list, I wouldn't use answers like Ancient Grundge maindeck. AG and ray of revelation must just be answers against hate cards, nothing else; first game you only want to destroy the opponent, you have nothing to defend against.

-2 forbidden
-2 riftstone
-2 ancient grundge

+1 petrified
+1 maze of ith (mainly against fast colossus, debatable choice)
+1 unmask
+1 dread return
+1 sundering titan
+1 sutured ghoul

You could also choose to swap some golgari thugs for some Shambling Shells: they dredge a bit less but they give more strength to the sutured beast (probably not needed however).

Post side, you need to have protections against possible hate:

3 Rifstone
4 Ancient Grudge (against tormod, pithing and few others)
4 Ray of Revelation (planar void mainly, useful against oath too)
4 Sickening Shoal / Contagion (these are needed mainly against meddling and Jotun Grunt)

The deck is indeed solid, and really dangerous if the opponent is not prepared. Just remember to mulligan until you get first turn bazaar (not really a problem with serum too). You NEED bazaar first turn, mulligan even to 1 for it is not a real problem, the cards that matter are those in the grave, not those in hand. Of course, sometimes you just play bazaar, sometimes you go mad with leyline, unmask, chalice at zero, bazaar (all those threats first turn are deadly usually, you often need just a couple to have a good grasp on the match).

P.S.
I've tried gigapede, but did not like it very much.. it's not black (no unmask and no ichorid), it really give a big ghoul, but it's not really needed. It's main ability is not something I've found useful so often. Still a card which make sense, but I don't think it's really worth it.

stryfe,

why the hell are you just saying, play the star city list? Do you really think that Steve knows everything there is to know about magic? This list is from Eric Becker aka Intuition Tendrils or IT, URBana Fish, Pitch Long. I think he knows a hell of a lot more about the current environment. This list actually fights against the bad matchups, and has the main deck answers to what we think is the inevitible shift of Leylines and other hate starting to work the main deck. there are other reasons for those cards main, but that's a story you'll find out after the next SCG event.

next time, test a list before hitting it down
