in every format i have ever played i always tried to find a way to play a sligh type deck. right when timespiral came out, i built an extremelt succesful mono red sligh deck which included char, spark elemental, slith firewalker etc. etc. but now that worlds is over people have been playing boros like mad, which means silver knight and soltari priest like mad. after 6 hours of straight play testing against bdw, i came up with this deck. and i must say its awesome

6x Mountain
4x Blood Crypt
4x Wooded Foothills
2x Bloodstained Mire

4x Chrome Mox

4x Spark Elemental
4x Slith Firewalker
4x Rakdos Guildmage
4x Magus of the Scroll
4x Giant Soulifuge

4x Rift Bolt
4x Char
4x Magma Jet
4x Fire Bolt
4x Smother

SB: 4x Sudden Shock
4x Cabal Therapy
4x Chainer's Edict
3x Shattering Spree

why did i splash black? because black has the best card (in my opinion) in extended right now. smother. it kills psychatog, arcbound ravager, wild mongrel, meddling mage, etc etc. also, it kills paladin envec, soltari priest, and silver knight, which has always given red deck problems. also, this opens up better sideboard cards. i now have cabal therapy available against combo, chainer's edict to kill some more priests, knights, and paladins and to kill things like phantom centaur and troll acsetic.

my playtest buddies told me to play grim lavamancer and take out spark elemental. im still not sure if i should, its just that so often i got first turn doulble spark elemental or something rediculous of that sort. so i know lavamancer is an option right now, but ive had great success with spark elemental

any suggestions would be great and thanks for the help!

Why no dark confidant? As for the Spark vs Lavamancer, I would have to go lavamancer. Like you said, Silver Knights everywhere, so why drop a ?/1 that will be eaten by a Knight instead of dealing damage straight to the opponent. Sure, you have smother, but only 4 of them and are you really going to save them just for the knights?

im on a tight budget so confidants arent high on my list (most of the money cards i already got). and i see your point about grim lavamancer, two to the dome consistantly seems better than 3 damage once.

How is Spark Elemental any better than Lava Spike? In fact, isn't it almost strictly worst? I don't follow extended very much so I might be wrong.

ah good point i never thought of that. i guess it might be better because it can possibly kill a creature, but the more that i think about it grim lavamancer seems much better than spark elemental

paladin don't seems relevant to me afterall Very Happy

@confidant probs

a set is under 20 bugs, so its not that expensive, and keep in mind that you play him in every format, he is worth the money

and whats the deal with 20 mana sources and 4 solifuges? don't seems to work out for me

i think you should run some discard so you have a chance vs control. Durress and cabal therapy are good ones. Id drop magus of the scroll for some of those. Confidants are a must. Its the difference between being able to play a card or just drawing a land.

i forgot paladin was pro black...but smother is still awesome

as for only having 20 mana sources, its actaully not that bad with magma jet and dark confidants you guys convinced me to put in. and grim lavamancers are deffinantly in, they are much better than spark elemental. so if i put in confidants, what comes out? my vote is for the guildmage just because the guildmage is very mana intensive and his abilites arent superb anyway.
