You guys never sieze to amaze me...He asked for suggestions on hosers against Affinity with his U/B Control deck and all he pretty much got was "splash green for deed" and "splash white for Kataki"...I love the creativity in that...nada..

Anyways...Posting a decklist would help us immensely...that way we know what sb cards to run w/o altering your own gameplan. After that, I maybe can offer some suggestions to help your matchup against Affinity...

You know, that's simply because splashing is so easy these days and Kataki is THE answer to raffinity. A single Hallowed Fountain isn't going to hurt you and you can search it up with your fetches. With UB, you don't have too many affinity trumps now that energy flux is gone and Kataki just fills up the hole perfectly.

Any U/B deck is a bye for Affinity. They just don't have the hosers to stop it.

Pernicious Deed is too slow to stop affinity. Even the Cranial Platings force a Deed player to have 5 mana to stop it, or they have to wait a turn to sac the deed. By the time affinity gets to its 4th turn, you're done. And why is it that people think Deed for Zero destroys all the affinity players lands!? You must be playing against some chump affinity players. Even a 2 colour affinity deck should be playing Blinkmoth Nexus AND Darksteel Citadel.

I've played against Kataki many a time, and even though it is rough when played 2nd turn, a first or 2nd turn Ravager eats it alive with a Blinkmoth Nexus or Glimmervoid keeping the Ravager going.

There is a large misperception about affinity. It is a default deck for bad players, and good players won't use it because they think it's a deck for scrubs. When Affinity is in the hands of a good player (like myself) it's a wrecking ball, and all "Silver Bullet" cards can be played around. Affinity isn't just lay stuff and swing. Play it enough, and you will see that affinity is a VERY skill intensive deck to play. Not just the math (Adding and subtracting aren't THAT hard) but the subtle nuances of playing an artifact land the first turn to force out a Frogmite, or a Blinkmoth Nexus, so you can attack with it 2nd turn with a plating.

I was always a control/midrange player at heart for the first 8 or so years of magic, but when I started playing with affinity, I realized this deck DOES NOT play itself. Kataki actually made Affinity a better deck, now that players think that's all they need to beat it. Big mistake. If ANYONE denies what I'm saying, that's great. We're all entitled to our opinion. But please, if you see me on the magic-league channel, challenge me to an extended game (With whatever anti-affinity deck you've got) and I'll PROVE to you what's what.

Pwned!

A big part of it is the assumption that there is always some catchall for hosing any given deck. As if you'll ALWAYS draw your hoser. Needless to say that's false. Any affinity deck that runs Pyrite Spellbombs laughs off the kataki strategy. Energy Flux was WAY more of a hoser than Kataki and Affinity decks still ran rampant at the time. There are some good universal anti-weenie cards (Decree for one) that would double serve to remove Frogs and Workers, but that's turn four and by that time you're looking at Hoverguards or Enforcers.

There are lots of cards that inhibit the deck, don't get me wrong. But to act like there's a card that says "All artifacts are destroyed. Artifacts cannot be played. Any player using cards with Affinity in the text immediately loses" is absurd.
