Hi! This is my first extended deck that I've ever posted here, so I'm looking forward to your feedback. Anyways, here's the deck"
Lands:
4 Urza's Mine
4 Urza's Power Plant
4 Urza's Tower
3 Academy Ruins
4 Hallowed Fountain
4 Adarkar Wastes or Flooded Strand
Creatures:
None
Instants/Sorceries:
4 Mana Leak
4 Rune Snag
2 Counterspell
1 Swift Silence
4 Remand
4 Wrath of God
4 Careful Consideration
4 Think Twice
Artifacts/Enchantments:
3 Mindslaver
3 Isochron Scepter
4 Azorius Signet
No sideboard as of now.
This deck may seem like a pile right now, but I'm trying to make it a bit more competetive. The point of the deck is: Academy Ruins + Mindslaver to control your opponent every turn. You may say: But this deck has no win conditions! That is true. That is why this deck hates Cranial Extraction. You MUST counter it. The win condition is decking. DECKING? That's right. Because you will never draw anything except Mindslaver, you will never run out of cards. But your opponent will. Once you get the lock, you cannot lose. Counterspells are pointless since you will tap them out each turn. It will not cause mana burn, since you can't, but you can still tap them out. Now the lock costs a HUGE 12 mana. In comes tron. Since the lock consists of only 1 blue mana, the full tron set makes the combo cost only 4U. And that mana is easy to come by, especially since Urzatron is cumulative. I need effective sideboard ideas, and also some ways to make this deck more viable. Thanks, and have a nice day.
Edit: Scepter is to buy time, since the mana from tron will make it so that you can easily play spells and still keep scepter mana open. Also, doesn't this deck look like a standard deck with 3 Mindslavers and 3 Isochron Scepters?

Since you're talking about extended, I'd suggest going with Thirst for Knowledge over Think Twice and Fact or Fiction over Careful Consideration. Thirst has a lot of synergy with the deck, since you don't care so much about pitching Mindslaver. Careful Consideration is painful with the manabase. I would also consider eliminating either the Mana Leak or Rune Snag for threats, since if you try playing this in real life you'll probably end up with a lot of 0-1-1 and 0-0-1 matches.
Swift Silence is going to sit dead in your hand a lot of the time, I think. Your manabase doesn't look like it will like putting together the three mana. It seems like an overkill spell, anyway; if you're worried about stopping storm, you're better off with Stifle or Trickbind. Otherwise, you're probably going to use it to counter one spell, and there are much better options for that. |

| Ah! Thirst for Knowledge and FOF! I forgot about those. I've looked at the article by Frank Karsten before, and I will follow some of the things on that list. This is basically the UW version, I guess. Sundering Titan is a must, I think. I don't really know about repeal, but I'll try it. My deck is a heavy counter deck, so the list is different. Maybe I'll sideboard some decrees, just in case of Cranial. Thanks for all of the advise, and keep them coming! |

| I know! I've looked at both. I like the ideas from both of them. I was wondering, should I add Cunning Wish to the deck? It might be fun for a toolbox scepter deck in addition to the lock, which is the win condition. I'm also feeling that I need something to do with massize amounts of mana. Does anybody know a card that would be good with lots of mana? And what is a good solution in UW against Meddling Mage? |

| It looks okay, but yeah just put in the better card draw (fof, tfk) and a few threats.. titan, decree of justice, and/or exalted seem good. |
