|
Hey guys,
I would like to know how magic-league tournaments work including challenges.
oHow are the tournaments organised and what is their aim?
oHow prizes work.
oHow often tournaments are held and how long they last.
oI would also like to know how do English players get into tournaments that are more convenient to them.
Many thanks. |

First off there are 3 different tournaments here on magic league. Masters, Trials, and minis.
Trials are once a day, different times each day, with different formats each day (you can check the calendar to get a shedcule). They are Single elmin, and the top 2 usually get byes to masters (2/1 typically) sometimes they have masters that you need to qualify for thru Trials (the next one is an example of this) Those are the only prizes for trials. Minis are ran whenever a TC makes one. They are usually 8 person and are also single elimination. They have no prizes. Just for rating and testing.
Masters are typically held on a monthly/bi-monthly basis. They are cut to top 8, about 7 or 8 rounds. These have prizes, usually store credit.
The tournaments are held whenever, especially Minis. Trials run at dfferent times each day. Masters tend to start 12pm EDT |

At this moment there are usually something like 35 tournaments a day, most of wich are minis.
Minis are impromptu tournaments in any format, and can be created at the whim of any judge. minis are single elimination tournaments, so when you lose, you are out.
Every day there is a scheduled tournament, called a trial tournament. Trials are single elimination tournaments, and the winner of a trial gets 2 byes to the next master tournament. The loser of the finals of a trial gets 1 bye.
Every other week there is a master tournament. This tournament is open to every magic-league player and is a swiss tournament with 5, 6 or 7 swiss round with a cut to top 8. The master is held at sundays, and has prizes for winner and the loser of the finals. Prize for the winner of a master is something around $60.
Once in a while, we have an invitational, wich can be attended by the following people: winners of a trial, in the weeks leading up to the invitational, top 50 magic-league constructed players, top 16 magic-league limited players and top 8 magic-league eternal players.
As the master, the invitational is a tournament that uses the swiss structure, and cuts to top 8.
The invites will be determined at may 10th (for the upcoming invitational). Prize pool is:
1st: $100 store credit
2nd: $80 store credit
Top 4: $50 store credit
Top 4: $50 store credit
Top 8: $30 store credit
Top 8: $30 store credit
Top 8: $30 store credit
Top 8: $30 store credit
I hope this is enough information. If you need to know more, don't hesitate to ask.

| about Store Credit...in the event that I'd get some, would it be possible for me to get cards sent to me using it even though I'm based in Europe (I'm assuming that the Magic-League sponsor is US-based) ??? |

Actualy, magic-league is based in the Netherlands, but that is not really important in this situation. In the case that you win credit, you just contact Koen mentioning the cards you want, and from wich store you want it to be sent, and Koen orders thaem and lets the shop ship them to your adress.
