I was thinking more along the lines of: Deckbuilding contests, give the contestants specific requirements and the best deck that meets those requirements wins -OR- contestants must build a deck based around a specific card (one that isnt usually used in a deck), the best deck to utilize that card wins -OR- Design a card contest, most creative card wins.

Prizes would be 1 bye to the winner and the runner-ups will have their deck/card posted on the homepage.

Their would also be a panel of judges designated for the creation and review of each contest and entry. I would be, of course, spear-heading the project.

I think this would bring something new to M-L and give players something to think about other than what deck to make that will beat the current submission that always wins.

another option for the poll should of been: I'm not sure, the idea might be good and it might be bad.

I think that since my original word was suck, the poll didnt accept that as a valid answer so it ommited that.

I think it could work but the problem is that if it's a close match people will get pissed with whichever deck is chossen. Then there is the problem of chossing who judges will be.

What you might want to do is make one thread to submit the decks (any other posts will be spam for the sake of making them easy to look at) and then another thread with a poll for people to vote on. It will be fairer then letting judges decide.

I really like this idea, but I think the prizes are just over doing it in terms of what you are doing to earn them.
Why does there even have to be prizes? Can't people do this for fun? I know I'd be happy just doing this for fun.
And maybe the contests don't have to always pertain to M:tG.
Just a few ideas.

yes, their doesnt necessarily have to be prizes...it could just be for HONOR and GLORY Smile.

not MtG related eh, hmmm. The contests cant be anything where the answers would be available by typing it in on google and finding the answer, that just doesnt work. I GOT IT!!

There could be real quick 5 minute long contests...what would happen is a question about Magic/Current Events/Anything else will be posted just like a mini would. Players would join and instead of a "select deck" option, there would be a "insert answer" block. Players would input their answer and submit it, after that they cant submit anymore. Once the 5 minutes reaches 0:00, no more entries will be valid, this prevents ppl from going on google and looking things up because that takes time and time is something they dont have.

What does everyone think? Can we try to put this thought into action? I would be "moderator" of this new area of M-L...for lack of a name.

Not gonna happen...For one thing me and Blake had an idea about including articles for ML and it was shot down by Koen, because this is only meant to be a league...meaning for games not contests, another thing is your not 1337 enough to be mod of anything...

I suggest you use phantom's idea.

make a thread, asking for decks...hen make a poll on the same thread as to not waste ML memory, having like 5 or so decks...
You could do it for certain types of decks..asking for T2 R/W aggro decks and have them vote on the best...

I really like phantom's idea, I think I'll do it

Neo_K, msg me on irc. Very Happy

well, they dont have to be contests at all. I think I'll use Phantoms idea and just ask for decks and then ask which everyone thinks is the best one on a poll. But, do you think we could post the winner of the best deck build on the homepage, I mean, I want something good to come of this Smile

I'm not going to ask for the best R/W aggro deck because all the submissions will be almost entirely the same build (except sb). I will ask people to build decks centered around a specific card as their win condition or the best deck that utilizes the specific colors i might require.

actually, the t2 format right now is soo scattered I'm betting asking for R/W would lead into like 5 different possibilities...

and no, I doubt this will have any effect outside of your threads.

Also, since you aren't I'm most likely going to be doing the same thing as you just more aimed to help people with netdecking.
