all those bands are metal, they are different kinds of metal, but still...

Metallica is Trash Metal, while bands like Iron Maiden are power metal, and Black Sabbath which is Heavy Metal and so on..

The fact that Tool was not included in the voting is utter bullsh*t. Tool is by far the most dynamic innovative and brilliant band, let alone "metal band" there has been in rock music for the past 20 years. Perhaps the only valid reason for them not to be included is because they're so much more than metal.

Best bands/artists period...

1. Johnny Cash
2. Tool
3. Fugazi/Minor Threat
4. Misfits
5. The Ramones
6. Black Sabbath
7. Dead Kennedys
8. Metallica
9. Iron Maiden
10. Bad Religion

top 5 songs as of right now.. (in no particular order)

Gnarls Barkley - "Crazy"
(I'll be honest, I'm not normally one for the radio music, but the first time I heard this one I knew it was a keeper.)

Dismemberment Plan - "The City"
(Probably the best song from the Princes of DC indie.)

The Good Life - "Inmates"
(OK, you probably have to listen to this in the context of the cd to see why it's one of my favorites. The CD is a concept album "Album of the Year" - 12 songs detailing a relationship over the course of a little over 1 year. Also, yes, this is the guy from Cursive.)

DNTEL feat. Ben Gibbard - "(This is) The Dream of Evan and Chan."
(The beginning of the Postal Service, and also, in my opinion, their best song, although most people can't stand the static in the beginning the first time they hear it.)

Jeff Buckley - "Hallelujah"
(Just a really beautiful remake of the old Leonard Cohen nutshell.)

...I guess that about covers it. Pretty different from the metal bands mentioned so far Smile
Although to be honest, one of the first CDs I ever bought (when I was like 10) was Metallica's self-titled "Black" album. And I still like it. So meh.

I downloaded that master of the puppets song cause lots of you mentioned it. I think other songs like the unforgiven and turn the page were better but I'm not really such a metal or w/e but thats my opinion

I like a lot of different kinds of music. I like Metal more than anything though.

1) Blind Guardian
2) Nirvana
3) Demons and Wizards
4) Pink Floyd
5) The Doors

for my favorite artists, my favorite songs from them would be...

Blind Guardian - Under the Ice / Precious Jerusalem
Nirvana - Very Ape
Demons and Wizards - The Gunslinger
Pink Floyd - Mother
The Doors - The End / Ghost Song

As for my favorite songs overall... That would be too difficult. If I were to include all bands I like it would be many of he good bands from the 60's and 70's, metal bands from the 80's, Early to mid 90's rap, some modern day music (This has to be general, I don't listen to much new shit as older stuff), 80's Punk music, German metal bands, some techno stuff, very few country artists such as Johnny Cash, Southern Rock like the Marshall Tucker band and Jethro Tull, and plenty of other good things.

Hmmm...

Bands:
1. At the Drive-In ftw (my irc name is OneArmedScissor, go figure)

Really all other bands are a distant second, including all atdi spinoffs. Atdi pwns the mars volta, sorry.

Bands in that distant second category would include:
Mars Volta (obv)
Sparta (obv)
Damiera (rediculous)
Maps and Atlas (also rediculous)
Norma Jean (just badass)
A Voice Like Rhetoric (rediculous)
Fugazi (classic)
Sonic Youth (see above)
Aloha (rediculous)
Hot Water Music
Botch
Children of Bodom/Dragonforce/ Any Power Metal (hillarious)
Johnny Cash
Thelolious Monk
John Coltrane
Miles Davis
Q and not U
Thursday
Brazil

So much damn music don't know where to begin

Albums
1. Vaya: At the Drive-in
2. Trees, Swallows, Houses: Maps and Atlases
3. Goo: Sonic Youth
4. The Argument: Fugazi
5. A Flight and a Crash: Hot Water Music
6. Austere: Sparta
7. Tremulant: The Mars Volta
8. Damiera: Damiera
9. Bless the Martyr, Kiss the Child: Norma Jean
10. O' God the Aftermath: Norma Jean

Songs:
1. Shit I don't even know.

Anyone who doesn't vote Iron Maiden in the poll is just wrong. Iron Maiden is the essence of metal, pure and simple.
