If it were any other country than USA that he wronged that badly (for those who don't know, 2 awful red cards), he would not have even have woken up the next morning. |

you americans have absolutely no idea about soccer whatsoever. sliding straight into somebody's legs from behind DOES deserve a red card
other thing, pope got 2 yellow cards, one of which was for literally PRESSING another player into the ground |

| Ok. For one, If you watch the replay as many time I I have you can see he hits ball fist. Not to mention that itwas close enough to be even considered at most a yellow card, but the ref pull out that red card without considereation in a heartbeat. |

| I'm Italian and I think the game at one point got extremely rough, too rough for one single referee to handle it at times, he had to behave that way or else the players would have started a riot... btw pope was every single time doing fauls; like every 10 minutes 1 foul... people you must understand this is not american football... Italy itself doesn't play very well in such situations because it is very committed to its tactics and strategy and when opponents continously kick your legs it is very difficult to stay calm and play your game... I am not happy with the draw even though I must say that de rossi was a total moron he did a foul which was absolutely retarded I don't know what he had on his mind... In the end what allowed the Americans to achieve such a favorable result was their physical strength and endurance surely superior to Italy's... |

for baryonyx... pope already had a yellow card therefore if you get another one yellow card + yellow crad= red card
and the other US team guy that got expelled he literally wanted to wreck Pirlo's leg, and he probably did because Pirlo didn't play for the rest of the game therefore he deserved the red card and he got it... |

| From a 'neutral' point of view, that referee was great. He had difficult decisions to make and imo got pretty much all of em right. |

| btw the referee acted in an absolutely right manner, the guy who had to check for offsides gave 2 invisible offsides to Italy, and also if you ignorant Americans were to travel around the world a bit you would understand that not only Europe is far more civilized than the US but also your neighbour Canada is... ah a nation has no influence on a referee decision, it's not like you can throw bombs on the referee's house, because that's the American usual policy in conflict resolution... |

I'm assuming the people who are on the referee's side are not American or just didn't see what happened. Having played futbol 10 years and watched it all my life, as well as reffed it for 4, I know how things are supposed to go.
The ref cannot outright give the red, or even a second yellow without talking to the player first. There are many exceptions, such as taking out a keeper with the ball, but none of these occured during the match. Even with FIFA cracking down on penalty calls, that was a horribly called game. |

Yeah, right, people that don't agree with the american way of playing are not american. That phrase sounds familiar.
Anyway, on that quote about talking to the player beore giving a yellow card: you couldnot be more wrong. The yellow card is given for the foul commited. Talking to the player doesnot change anything, and in fact even is discouraged, to keep players from argumenting and even get a more harsh penalty (yes, you can get a card for argumenting, and disagreeing. Unsportsmanlike behaviouor is not only frownedpon in magic).
If you commited a foul, worthy of a yellow card, you get that card, and no discussion is gonna change that.
There is nothing wrong with playing the game "physical" but there is a difference between a sliding from the front, or from the sides where the player can see it coming, or a sliding from behind, wich can never be seen by the player that is targeted. Those actions are so dangerous for the player involved, that a yellow card is in order, even if the atacking player is targetting the ball, if only for the fact that the player being atacked cannot anticipate the action, and therefor might suffer injuries for not being able to react.
A sliding from other sides can be anticipated upon, and a player can save himself (while losing the ball in the process, but hey, that was the intention of the sliding).
Atacking from behind in any way is forbidden, unless it is a duel, and not a single action.

If the foul did not need a yellow card but was dangerously close, the ref needs to warn the player, that's how it is supposed to go. This ref was nonhesitant, he just busted out the rojo. |
