lets roll the video. In the top 8 of honolulu the bw aggro played against owling mine and it was a 3-0 sweep in the favor of owl. Now granted he did leave in dark confidant but it wasn't relevant in the 2nd and 3rd game. For those who say owl looses to aggro your 100% right. But BW decks aren't aggro they are aggro control. This means the deck is built less on tempo and more on disruption while clocking the opponent. Zoo and Gruul are the actual aggro decks in the format.

well then, if i am hearing this right.... owling mine can beat BW hand in hand/BW husk, and can beat control decks. its seaming like a pretty good choice if u can make it to the later rounds.

Owl does indeed have a favorable game 1 against husk, but the dynamic of the match changes significantly if the bw deck has shining shoal in there somewhere. Ghost dad could beat owl every time.

Let's take a moment to compare husk to the deck that owl beat in that tournament.
a) pithing needle instead of jitte. That's 1 mana less, and the deck now has an answer to mikokoro.
b) 8 1-drops, instead of 4. That may or may not be FREAKING IMPORTANT AGAINST OWL.
c) WAY more aggression. Husk often threatens to win the very first turn it attacks. This means owl has to have a bounce for it every turn, and this also means the tempo game for owl is completely screwed up.
d) More preparedness. B/W players have more of a clue how to play against Owl now, and Husk is the best B/W deck against it, primarily due to isamaru.
Face it. Husk > Owl. Husk is one of the main reasons I quit playing Owl, it just beats it. |

bounce lands have been creeping back in to decks, osyp (or whatever his name is) was a moron to suggest having 4 in husk, alot of decks run boomerang, would you refuse them having 1 land turn 3?

WUR control (or zur's/firemane contol) is a very polar deck, on the one hand it usually trashes medium paced aggro and loads of control, but it loses to owl, gruul, zoo, and a few others more often than not.

Tiago vs Rued(sp?) at Hawaii is a bad example. Tiago won because everything in Rued's deck dies to Pyroclasm except Ghost Council, he doesn't have cards that avoid it like Husk and Promise. Not to mention Husk has Shoal in the sideboard. That comparison is all kinds of wrong.

UR Tron has a very very good matchup vs, Husk and is gaining popularity in MTGO since 50% of the field was BW Aggro variants. Signet accelerated Wildfires, Keigas and Meloku, with cheap countermagic and cheap effective board and powerful card drawing (Tidings) are too much for a slower aggro deck, like husk, to handle.

To anyone who says that Husk beats Owling Mine, please play the fucking matchup. If Husk is winning, then your Owl player or Owl list is awful. Husk plays nearly 20 cards that at least 3 mana, it plays guild lands, it has a slow clock, and it's only relevant disruption is Castigate. It is extremely easy to outrace Husk with Owl. I suspect most of you are just flapping your mouths without actually playing. If you had played the matchup as frequently as I have, you could not say it is in Husk's favor, or anywhere near it.
