| I'm pretty sure you can't because apprentice divides everything into yours or theirs. It probably wouldn't be too hard to modify it to allow multiplayer though. What do you say Koen? Could you do it? |

Apprentice is copyrighted. No one's allowed to mess with it unless they own the copyright or w/e... otherwise it's illegal. And no one's been working on Apprentice for quite awhile now.
No you can't play multiplayer on Apprentice. And odds are you never will. |

not too hard? I guess you have not tried anything like it before. just the synching up of 3 or more connections is quite a task on it's own. Also, to do such thing we would need to have the source code to apprentice, and since we don't, we can't.

Defining 'too hard' or such is all relitive to someones skill. I for example would be a good candidate for setting up the methods for sycronizing multiple people but not so good at a lot of the other codes required. My friend could whip up crazy strings off the top of his head in a couple different codes that would probably do the trick, but I dont trust him to set his own computer up at a LAN party. Go figure.
Anyways, I also doubt it'll ever come to pass, which is a bit sad. Has anyone looked at the Apprentise copyrights? They can and often do expire or go dormant if not updated or purchased for a long term. I've not seen any work being done in and/or around it for some years so maybe its worth looking into. Or if someone is gung-ho enough perhaps contacting the original team and asking if adding on to thier code would be something they support as a 3rd-party patch type deal. Many options out there IF someone was keen enough. |

Apprentice actually does have a little native support for multiplayer. The way the card id's work allow more than 2 players, you can also do things like setting a 3rd player's name, etc, etc. But other parts of the program are hard-coded to 2 players.
There is also the problem of the program being closed source. The developers are gone, and so is any way of contacting them. (dragonstudios.com's domain expired and was bought by an actual studio).
And I could list 5 or so networking problems.
The best technical solution would probably involve a proxy hacked on top of appr, and the actual apprentice code wouldn't change.
Aside from the tecnical aspects of the problem, there are others. With appr, the play area is shared by everyone. It would be difficult to have more than 2 players share the play area simply because there is not enough room. Seeing information about opponents' hand sizes and life totals is also difficult to do.
The best solution would be just to start from scratch and not try to save an 8 year old dinosaur. |

partially true, i myself have been in contact with the author of apprentice and we are going to discuss whether or not our team can "take over" from where theirs left off.

not that hard to solve with a scrollable infinite spaced tabletop. (like in rts games)

Wasn't the owner of Appr originally a staff member in ML? I know Koen put a lot of stock in Appr. 2.0 and that went down the drain about 3 modifications before it was useable.
I was told by Lamex that the owners gave up and that appr. is as good as dead. Luckily you can still make patches for it. xD |

| If you really want to play multiplayer magic, go to www.cardfloppers.com and get OCTGN. Multiplayer works fine, only problem is finding enough players. |
